Cable Cove Campground is praised for its stunning location next to an amazing lake, providing campers with picturesque views and opportunities for water-based activities. The campground offers spacious sites, accommodating various camping setups, including large RVs. For example, site 9 can comfortably fit a 34-foot motorhome with a towing trailer. The campground features shaded sites with good spacing, creating a comfortable and private environment for campers. It is also noted that the campground is often not crowded, and generator noise from RVs is minimal, contributing to a peaceful stay. Most campers choose tent camping, which enhances the quiet ambiance.
However, some visitors have reported a slightly negative experience with a specific camp host. Issues included an off-leash dog, which is against campground rules, and a somewhat standoffish demeanor. While this appears to be an isolated incident and camp hosts change frequently, it is worth noting. Visitors should be aware that rules about pets on leashes should be followed.
In summary, Cable Cove Campground offers a beautiful lakeside camping experience in the Nantahala National Forest. It provides spacious sites suitable for both RVs and tents, and the surrounding forest is described as magical. While there have been minor concerns about a specific camp host, the overall experience is highly positive. Beautiful campground next to an amazing lake. We were able to fit our 34ft* motorhome with towing trailer in site 9. A couple others could also fit but we liked his one. There was a tiny trail that led to the creek from our site which was so nice. Cherokee forest was overall very magical! --- Only thing that made it a little off was a strange camp host. He didn't do anything wrong per say besides have his dog off leash, which is against rules, and the dog took off several times without him so I didn't feel safe to have my kid walking near them. He also was a little standoffish so just was a little uncomfortable. I'm sure they change hosts often but just something to note. ***Edited my post to fix, I initially put 43 ft, then 23 ft on accident but it's actually 34 ft, lol.
Great location near lake. Lots of shaded sites and good spacing between. Fortunately not crowded and no generator noise from rv campers. Most were tent camping here.
Great even for RVs! Large flat parking spots. No hookups but really nice for the area. Make sure not to drive RVs on tail of the dragon west of here.
I stayed here with a group of friends last summer and it was so much fun! The sites are large and plenty of parking at them. We had two tents and several hammocks with plenty of room. There is a fire pit as well as large picnic tables. We all just had cars, but plenty of room for RVs as well. No showers and vault toilets. They have a drinking water spigot. There is a little trail just off the campground that was great for walking our dogs. A peaceful little creek runs alongside it. We all had kayaks and with the access right down the road, it make it super convenient. Note that this area has zero cell service. This was nice for our group, but if that is an issue, be forewarned. I definitely recommend this campsite!
We have stayed here several times and find it very quiet and relaxing. One of the public access ramps for Fontana is just minutes down the same road, so lots of anglers tend to camp here. The price per night is now $15 CASH/ or check ONLY, but it is a National Park so use your pass for discount. Water and pit toilets available.
Not Open Fontana Dam Camping was ridiculously expensive
