I used to go here for a week every summer as a kid. I always loved it, mostly because it was a week that I knew my father wasn't going to violently beat me because there was no way for him to keep it a secret there. Thin walls and close proximity equals people would have heard the depravity he was doing to me and known what a pervy creepy child abuser he is. So Camp Bethel will always feel like a safe space to me, even if it's only because I associate it with not being repeatedly violently assaulted.
