Camp Brookside is a great place that the park should utilize more often. Has great area for camping and outdoor activities. Good spot right on the river for fishing and putting boats in the water. There are cabins that can be used, if not wanting to tent camp. It's a reservation only spot in the park, so would have to contact their HQ for more information on it.

ACTIVE SWV had a new Community Captain training at Camp Brookside today. I was informed that the Camp was constructed in 1947 and remodeled or refurbished in 2005 or 2015. Our training was in the Administration building. It is very spacious, the kitchen area is very modern looking, and the restrooms are well maintained also. For a building so close to the river I expected it to be in much worst shape.

We went for a short hike which took about 30 minutes and is easy. Lots of rocks to climb over for the kids and many vantage points to sit and enjoy the Brooks waterfalls. Some native wildflowers in mid June. The NPS rangers were doing some water testing so they had the camp occupied. We asked if we could walk through the field and the end of the hike. The path is obvious along the river until you reach a very large expansive flat rock. You need to walk inland and look for an entrance back into the woods on the left. Then when you enter the clearing stay left of the filled in pool to loop close to the river to pass the lodge.

My Pawpaw Roy worked at & retired from the Alloy plant. Our family spent many summers swimming, fishing, and enjoying the lodge as well as the cabins. Wonderful memories ☺️
