Customer Feedback:
- "The grounds were pretty much empty; we only came across one other fisherman who was just leaving and had no luck. We also didn't catch anything that day. This pier is nice, particularly because of the benches and width of the dock."
- "It’s extremely funny how the government is always worried about DEI but they never care if the handicapped are included 樂 It’s disgusting"
While there have been challenges in ensuring full accessibility, Camp Chowenwaw Park remains a beloved spot for those who appreciate nature and outdoor activities.

We visited on a weekday to enjoy a nice picnic and do some fishing. The grounds were pretty much empty; we only came across one other fisherman who was just leaving and had no luck. We also didn't catch anything that day. This pier is nice, particularly because of the benches and width of the dock.
This place must really HATE THE HANDICAPPED! Only one of their so called “hiking trails” is wheelchair accessible, only because it’s a wooden dock but it is currently inaccessible to wheelchairs because of the poor maintenance allowing a deep area of mud and sand to accumulate at the entrance to the trail The “Handicapped parking” spots are just paved spots in the middle of gravel or sand parking lots, absolutely useless. There are no sidewalks or decent walking areas along the main roads, there are speed bumps spanning the entire width of the roads resulting in wheelchairs having to leave the pavement going into the dirt just to get around the speed bumps. There was a dirt road I could walk my dog down but they just went in and dumped several inches of sand causing it to be completely impassable to wheelchairs It’s extremely funny how the government is always worried about DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) but they never care if the handicapped are included 🤔 It’s disgusting
This is an amazing park to visit for just a day out with family or you can also camp in tents or rent one of their amazing rustic type cabins some of the cabins are like tree houses. They have a public pool a playground picnic and grilling. Many nice nature trails to walk on including a long dock out to the water where you can fish. They also have a really nice bathroom facility with changing stalls. You can rent canoes and spend the day on the black creek enjoying nature. Overall the park is a family kid and pet friendly place to visit.
Camp Chowenwaw is decent for a weekend getaway. I don't know if I could handle it for more than a weekend. I like that it is near Black Creek so you can go out on a boat if you have one. You're not just confined to the pool they have. My favorite part is the large pond they have. Did you know it used to be a pool? Now there are Bluegil fish and large-mouth bass swimming in it. There are turtles too, on occasion there might be alligators in it. I stayed in one of the air-conditioned cabins for a few hours. During the day, the unit struggles like crazy to cool off the cabin, but I'm sure it's great once the sun moves over. The trails are nice. The boardwalks are fun to walk on. There are designated areas for "real campers" to set up tents. There are treehouses you can rent out. They are pretty cool but there are no AC hook ups. I like the large black carts you can use to carry your stuff to your designated cabin. Green Cove Springs is 5 mins from it so at least there's places to eat, shop, and play. If you want more, you'll have to drive an additional 30mins from Green Cove Springs to Palatka and East Palatka.
lovely little park and campgrounds, the community fire pits are a wonderful idea, so many trails to wander and beautiful scenery. the main trail is wide and well packed, I was able to get through in my wheelchair easily (except for a few pesky roots), can't wait to come back here to camp!
