Camp Elmbois Introduce

Camp Elmbois stands as a charming and well-regarded destination within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, offering a welcoming atmosphere for campers seeking a tranquil escape in the picturesque Finger Lakes region of New York. Located at 8464 County Road 77 (or Elmbois Rd) in Hammondsport, NY 14840, this campground is a "hidden gem" praised for its private feel and convenient proximity to the natural beauty of Keuka Lake and the vibrant local attractions. This detailed introduction aims to provide local users with a comprehensive understanding of Camp Elmbois, covering its environment, services, features, and any available promotional information, all based on publicly accessible details and camper reviews.

The environment at Camp Elmbois is a key component of its appeal. It is situated in the heart of the Keuka Lake wine country, less than 10 minutes from the charming village of Hammondsport on the west side, above Keuka Lake. The campground itself is described as a "small campground with a private feel," indicating a more intimate and less crowded setting compared to larger resorts. Its sites are noted as "large and level," which is a significant advantage for RVers. The natural surroundings include rolling hills and dense woodlands, providing a serene and scenic backdrop for camping. While it's not directly on Keuka Lake, it is close enough to offer convenient access to its beauty. A notable environmental feature within the campground itself are its "2 large ponds for fishing," which add to the peaceful ambiance and offer immediate recreational opportunities. The overall environment fosters a sense of relaxation and connection with nature, allowing campers to unwind amidst the beauty of the Finger Lakes region. Temperatures range from approximately 20°F in winter to 80°F in summer, providing a varied seasonal experience for campers, though the primary camping season is warmer.

As a prominent establishment within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, Camp Elmbois provides a comprehensive range of services to ensure a comfortable stay for its guests. For RV enthusiasts, the campground offers sites with varying electrical services, including 20 amp, 30 amp, and 50 amp hookups, accommodating a wide range of RVs, from small pop-ups to big rigs and those with slide-outs. All RV sites typically include water hookups. There are also tent sites or no-hookup sites available for traditional campers. Each campsite is equipped with essential amenities such as a picnic table and a fire ring, facilitating enjoyable outdoor meals and campfires. For guest convenience, Camp Elmbois boasts "clean and spacious" shower houses with individual shower rooms, and community restrooms, ensuring a comfortable and private bathing experience. A crucial service for RV travelers is the on-site dump station. While information on laundry facilities is not explicitly detailed in all public descriptions, many campgrounds of this caliber offer them. Wi-Fi service is available, allowing campers to stay connected if needed. The camp maintains a seasonal operation, generally from May 10th through October 15th, weather permitting, with reservations recommended. The staff is committed to providing a friendly and accommodating experience, with owners often on-site to assist guests. Policies are clearly outlined, including check-in/check-out times (1 PM check-in, 11 AM check-out), maximum occupancy per site (4 people for RV sites, 2 adults and dependent children for tent sites), and additional fees for extra people.

Camp Elmbois distinguishes itself with several appealing features that enhance the camping experience for diverse groups. Its location in the heart of the Finger Lakes region means guests have easy access to a multitude of nearby attractions, including numerous wineries, breweries, and distilleries that the area is famous for. This makes it an ideal base for wine tasting tours or exploring the local craft beverage scene. Within the campground itself, the two large ponds are a significant feature, offering "catch and release fishing," providing a relaxing activity for anglers of all ages. Complementary paddle boats are available for campers to enjoy on the ponds, adding a fun, no-cost recreational option. For families with children, a dedicated playground area provides safe and engaging entertainment. The campground also caters to the "above 55 crowd" for seasonal sites, suggesting a peaceful environment that appeals to retirees or those seeking a quieter long-term stay. Camp Elmbois is proudly pet-friendly, allowing two dogs per site, provided they are kept on a leash (no longer than 6ft) and are not left unattended. Specific breed restrictions apply (e.g., German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Pit Bull), and rabies certificates are required, ensuring the safety and comfort of all guests. Firewood is available for purchase on-site, a convenient feature that helps protect the local environment from tree pests. The overall atmosphere, combined with these thoughtful features, creates a welcoming and engaging environment for all types of campers.

When it comes to promotional information, Camp Elmbois primarily utilizes its official website and listings on major camping and travel platforms like AAA.com and The Dyrt. Their website clearly outlines camping rates for nightly, 5-night (Sunday-Thursday), 7-night, and monthly stays, with variations based on hookup type (e.g., tent site or no hookups, 20 amp electric, 20/30 amp electric & water, 50 amp electric & water). They specify that monthly rates do not include electricity. The website also details reservation policies, including a $10 deposit for bookings more than 7 days in advance, and cancellation fees that vary based on the notice given (e.g., full reservation charged for same-day cancellations or no-shows). Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Columbus Day) have specific 3-night minimum stay requirements and a 2-week cancellation notice policy. In July and August, weekend reservations (Friday and Saturday nights) are required. While explicit "discounts" are not heavily advertised, the transparent rate structure and the complimentary use of paddle boats and fishing ponds offer value. The camp's proximity to popular Finger Lakes attractions like Keuka Lake, the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum, and local wineries, breweries, and distilleries is often highlighted as a key promotional point, positioning it as an ideal base for exploring the region. Local users are strongly encouraged to visit the official Camp Elmbois website (www.elmbois.com) or call them directly at (607) 522-5200 for the most current information regarding rates, availability, reservation procedures, and any specific rules or seasonal updates to ensure a smooth and enjoyable camping experience.

In conclusion, Camp Elmbois offers a distinct and highly appealing option within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category. Its private, wooded environment near Keuka Lake, combined with spacious and well-equipped sites (including 20/30/50 amp electric and water hookups), modern restrooms, and a convenient dump station, ensures a comfortable stay for RV and tent campers alike. The availability of fishing ponds with complimentary paddle boats, a playground, and its strategic location amidst the Finger Lakes' renowned wineries and attractions, make it an ideal choice for both relaxing family getaways and explorations of the local culture. Catering to both general campers and the 55+ community for seasonal stays, Camp Elmbois presents itself as a welcoming and well-managed retreat. Local users seeking a quiet, amenity-rich, and strategically located camping experience in the beautiful Finger Lakes region should consider Camp Elmbois as a top choice for their next outdoor adventure.

The owners are national treasures. Some of the sweetest people I have ever met. The campground is quaint, quiet, and well worth the drive. I booked the site for a month for working out of town initially, then enjoyed this place so thoroughly that I booked a second month and brought the family up. Surrounded by back roads but close to essential infrastructure, it's the perfect getaway for my family and co workers. The only reason I give 4 stars is I can't wait to see what improvements the owners may make. I love it the way it is, but they are always up to something!

Was super excited to check out this spot with my roommate and boyfriend. My boyfriend got there early to set up before sunset and before the office closed (8 pm) we called prior to confirm this. My roommate & I did not end up getting there until after sunset( 9:30pm) do to prior engagements but my boyfriend had let the office lady (owner) know this when he made payment. However, when we arrived we accidently made a wrong turn due to how dark it was and when we finally made it to the correct path (main office) we were greeted by a very rude lady who completely embarrassed and harassed my roommate and I. She had said that we should have read the signs and drove on private property even though we apologized and said it was mistake. She would not drop it even though we were trying to explain our side, my boyfriend was even on the phone on speaker trying to explain that she had told him we were coming and she said “no we are not staying with him” because each campsite is only allowed two guests and when I nicely explained that we had driven an hour and a half from Rochester she calmed down and said it was cost $5 an extra a night for another guest. Why didn’t you start with this in the first place?? Once I said no problem and gave her the only cash I had ($100) after I had asked if she could make change. She was disgusted about the fact that I gave her a $100 but it was literally the only cash we had. When she came back from making change I told her came off strong over a wrong term and she said “I know”. My boyfriend confirmed that he treated her with nothing but respect and kindness but apparently she had an issue with two females. We booked for the whole weekend but ended up leaving after the first night for another campground because we felt so uncomfortable. $55 down the drain.

This is a beautiful small campground with the nicest hosts I've met on my East Coast trip. Spot number nine was nicely shaded and on the pond. The grounds are kept very clean as well as the bathrooms and showers. It was a great place to relax for one night but I'm already looking back to coming again for a longer stay.

This place honestly made our trip. Some of the friendliest people we've ever met own the place. They were super accommodating. We showed up in our camper van and they found us a nice secluded spot and brought us a picnic table. The bathhouse has private toilet/shower stalls. This place is great!

Absolutely loved our stay. The owners were pleasant and tried to assist in any way they could. It is a peaceful no frills park with beautiful ponds and nicely manicured landscaping . The individual restrooms and showers were immaculate and hot water wow!! The only reason I would not book for longer than a week or so is the lack of a laundry facility. Will definitely return!
