**👑 Introduction / Overview: Unparalleled Ocean-to-Sound RV Luxury**
For North Carolina residents seeking an elevated, amenity-rich camping experience on the iconic Outer Banks (OBX), **Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground** is widely recognized as a premier destination. Located centrally on Hatteras Island, this sprawling, 50-acre resort holds the unique distinction of being the **only oceanfront-to-soundfront camping resort** in the entire Outer Banks, offering guests direct access to both the rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean and the tranquil waters of the Pamlico Sound.
Established as a family-owned resort since 1991, Camp Hatteras caters specifically to RV travelers, featuring **over 400 full hookup sites** with comfortable **concrete pads and patios**. The park is packed with resort-level amenities, including multiple pools and extensive recreational facilities. Visitors appreciate the convenience, noting it’s **"Nice to be close to the beach, easy access."** The resort's dual-waterfront feature is a huge draw, with the **"Sunset view over the Sound pretty."** This full-service approach makes it an easy, all-inclusive choice for North Carolina families looking for a beach vacation.
**⚠️ Important Note on Customer Service and Policy:** While the facilities are praised, potential guests should be aware of stringent park policies, particularly regarding **check-in times and site assignment**. Reviews highlight that the **1:00 PM check-in time is strictly enforced**, even when the park is empty, which has led to frustration among some travelers who were not even allowed to wait in the parking lot. Furthermore, reserving specific sites often requires a non-refundable **$25 upcharge** group fee, even when paying for a "premium" section. While staff has a reputation for being friendly and helpful, these strict rules surrounding check-in and site placement are noted as a potential **"dealbreaker"** for some, suggesting that adherence to policy sometimes outweighs immediate customer accommodation. Always verify policies and fees directly before booking.

Overall, it was an "ok" place to stay. Nice to be close to the beach, easy access. Sunset view over the Sound is pretty. Laundry facilities were clean. The clubhouse was clean & nice with a pool & a hot tub. The park itself is nothing special to look at. We will not come back to Camp Hatteras. The dealbreaker is how our friends were treated. We arrived 2 days before they did. We did not reserve a specific site number but we did pay for a site in the "premium" section, closest to the beach. When our friends arrived, they asked for a site in or near our section only to be told that they should have prepaid a $25 upcharge for a specified site if they wanted to be near us. We didn't know where the campground was going to put us - they don't give you a site number with your reservation. The employee could have EASILY accommodated our friends' request as there were MANY sites in our section available the entirety of our stay and they paid for a "premium" campsite just like we did. Our friends arrived 25 minutes ahead of 1pm check in, after driving 6 hours, they were turned away. Not even allowed to sit in the EMPTY parking lot for 25 minutes - that is just plain rude. There were SO many sites available. I understand "it is policy" but in all our travels, we have NEVER been turned away from a slightly early arrival. It would have been understandable if the campground was at capacity or busy with other arrivals but that was absolutely not the case. Disappointing. Policy should not outweigh treating your customers with kindness. I do not recommend Camp Hatteras. There are a lot of better choices for my money.
We traveled with a group of 4 couples. Two in Class A's one in a Class C and a bumper pull. The staff got us into a great location that allowed us to set up a nice place to enjoy. Was breezy which was nice and only issue last day was a few bugs. Beach was easy to reach and nice. Outdoor pool was perfect and great place to meet other and have a nice conversation. Golf Cart rental right down the street. Lots of day trips to the Hatteras island via ferry...very nice and lots of places to eat within a short distance.
Visited for fall break only to find out everything in the area was closed for the season and the campground was nearly empty with limited hours for amenities. Seasonal hours should be posted on website as it affects the enjoyment of the stay greatly. Staff was friendly and helpful. . Sites were fine. What we expected for hundreds of sites together. Never could get their WiFi or cable to work. Overall location was uneventful. The sites themselves were located close to beach and bay. However, all stores and restaurants in the vicinity were closed. We traveled 30+ minutes for restaurants and entertainment. Overall a very strange experience as we literally felt as if we were the only ones around.
We were parked across the road from the office and it would have been nice if someone would have warned us about the tons of sandburs on the property. Our dog got them twice in his paws while we were there. The cable never did work where we were at. But it does have awesome sunsets.
We booked a weekend here and enjoyed it. Our kids liked the playground and mini golf. My youngest enjoyed riding his scooter on their paved roads. The beach is gorgeous. It’s very quiet until evening hours when everyone is out and about. There were some activities planned by the campground, like sand art and karaoke, but we didn’t get the chance to check them out due to our schedule. I don’t recommend going during a heat wave as there is zero shade. Concrete pads are nice and there’s a picnic table at each site. If you want to have a camp fire, you’ll need an above ground fire pit or a solo stove. The campground doesn’t rent golf carts, but there is a place down the road you can rent from and they will deliver and pick it back up. We suggest staying here if you plan to be out and about, like going to the Bodie Island Light house. As a side note, I was told by some locals that if you want alcohol besides beer and wine, you’ll have to get it in Nags Head as the outer islands aren’t allowed to sell it.
