We stayed 3 nights here with a few other couples, kiddos & pets. There are several clean bathrooms throughout the property & also free, hot showers. Close distance to town. It is a bit challenging to make a reservation since you have to call the mammoth hotline. It was quiet & all other campers were respectful. A lot of kids & a lot of pets. Great first time here!
Camp High Sierra is a beautiful spot, and is well located within Mammoth Lakes. But this campground, more than others, seems to attract mostly inexperienced campers. Expect people to walk through your campsite, have large unattended campfires, leave food and trash laying about, and make noise and commotion during quiet hours. Because the campground is owned and managed by a large corporation (Mammoth Mountain), the employees that work here, although very friendly, have little ability to control or correct problem campers. Any complaints must be channelled through the corporation, where you can expect no response. While this place might be a good fit for some people, there are other options in the area which can provide a quieter, less anxiety-provoking, and more appealing outdoor experience to RVers and campers.
A nice campground. What makes this place stand out is that they have hot showers and clean bathrooms, and also the service. Be aware that the campground handles same-day reservations only in person at the registration office. Unfortunately the day after July 4 the registration office wasn't staffed until later in the day (very much forgivable, though a note *should've* been posted), and so we weren't able to extend our stay by another night as we wanted before leaving for a day hike. However, we're decided to leave our tents set up at our site, and I left them a phone message asking to extend our stay. They graciously called me back after a few hours to let me know they had put a hold on a different site that was available for the night. When we came back, Jason at the registration walked up to our new camp site and told us he had rearranged the sites and moved us back to our original site in their system so we wouldn't have to move our tents. I love this level of care, and we will happily stay here again! Thank you, Jason!
Had an overall great experience. We stayed in the cabin with 6 beds. Right next to the bathroom and short distance to the showers. My toddler enjoyed the office unit full of games and things for her to color! The games definitely needed to be refurbished (so if you want to donate anything, I’m sure they would be grateful). The office staff were polite and helpful. The showers were clean, and had hot water. Firewood was about $7 a bundle you can purchase there.
Pretty campsite but literally in houses backyard. Sites are close to each other which isn’t the most ideal, especially when people do not abide to the quiet time hours. The staff is very friendly, but there is no one enforcing quiet time hours at night so people get loud and rowdy, even after 10pm. Many are super loud before the quiet time ends at 7am which was extremely rude, laughing loud , kids screaming, cooking loudly etc. If you come in the weekend, expect to be surrounded by very loud, obnoxious people that have no sense of decency towards others. People were leaving fires unattended and going to sleep without putting out the fire, which is both extremely unsafe and annoying for others that get a ton of smoke coming into your tents. I don’t know if there is a camp host, but if there is, they are not doing their job at all. The showers and bathrooms are ok, nothing to write home about. They could do with some upgrades but you have hot water and some privacy. The back tent only area is nice, more away from the more loud annoying people, and you do see deer and sometimes bear. But if you like to have a more outdoor and nature experience without people that have no respect for nature or others, I would not recommend this campground.
