Check-in is noon. We arrived at 11. I walked up to the office and rang the bell. An older gentleman came to the door. He didn’t open the door. He yelled through the door. What do you want? I said I have a reservation for tonight. He opened the door and said why are you here? I said we just arrived early. He said no, check-in is at noon and he slammed the door in my face. He didn’t even give me an opportunity to ask how much it would cost to check in early or where could I park until check-in? He just slammed the door. A couple of minutes later, a young girl came out very apologetic about the incident. She was very sweet. She told us where to park to go ahead and plug-in and not to worry about it. As far as the camp, the grounds are beautiful. Some of the buildings are a little old and need some updating, The bathrooms and the shower rooms both had cobwebs in the corners so they need a little cleaning. Overall, we enjoyed our stay with exception of the gentleman that first came to the door. I learned from talking to the staff that the gentleman that came to the door (Mike) more often than not is in what they called a“bad mood“
We stayed at Camp Hither Hills for one night. It was a perfect location before our one-day trip to Ottawa. The camp site was very peaceful and nicely maintained. The service was friendly and helpful. We stayed close to the toilets and showers. The price of a 7-min shower is $1. We had electricity and a nice wooden table where we had breakfast. I would recommend it.
We had a nice, level, pull through site with full hook-ups including 50-amp power. A nice bonus was the patio under the picnic table area. It had been pouring rain and these pull through sites seemed to handle the rain and drain fairly well, as opposed to some of the grassy areas. Check-in was easy, the gentleman was very helpful regarding information on the area and public transportation to the city. Laundry facilities were clean and worked well. Definitely a nice location for visiting the Ottawa area.
Had a wonderful night at camp hither hills!) Although we did a last minute check-in, they had a cozy site for us. The camp has everything you need - washrooms, warm showers, laundry, WiFi, electricity, water... it's next to a tech site, but you wont notice that at all. Service is very good with useful information like how best to get to the city. All that with fair prices!
We stayed last weekend for 4 nights. The first night we arrived there was a party going on next door behind the trees. The music was so loud that we talked to the owner of the campsite and he didn’t do anything about it! We called the police many times and the cops finally arrived at 2am and the music finally stopped. We were not happy with the response from the campsite owner because he didn’t take care of their customers. We will not come back again given there is a chance for another party next door anytime. Be aware!
