As a municipal property, the park operates with the community's comfort in mind, offering low-cost camping without sacrificing access to necessary facilities. Its location within the greater Humboldt park system also means easy access to recreational opportunities, appealing to families and solo travelers alike. The sense of peace and quiet, coupled with the affordability, often earns it high praise from visitors who appreciate the simplicity and the welcoming nature of the local administration. The park successfully balances the needs of short-term travelers and those looking to linger a little longer and enjoy the local small-town charm.

📍 Location and Accessibility

Camp Hunter RV Park is strategically situated in the southwest corner of Humboldt, Kansas, providing easy access while maintaining a sense of being on the outskirts of town. The address is clearly marked and simple to locate, positioned at the intersection of 1st and Ohio Streets. This puts it close enough to essential city services yet allows campers to enjoy a measure of quiet separation. Visitors have noted its proximity to the Prairie Spirit Trail State Park, making it an excellent stop for cyclists, hikers, and other trail users who need a convenient place to stay right off the route.

Accessing the park is straightforward. It is a highly visible local landmark and the city has clear instructions for securing a permit. While the official address is 1st & Ohio Sts, Humboldt, KS 66748, USA, it's important for visitors to note the necessary procedure for obtaining an overnight permit. Permits, which confirm your paid stay, can be acquired at the City Hall during regular business hours or, if arriving after hours, at the Water Plant (14 Bridge Street). This system ensures the low-cost camping fee of approximately $10 per night is properly collected and that all guests are accounted for. The location’s accessibility, even with this permit process, is a major draw for people passing through or exploring the extensive trail system that runs nearby. The park is nestled within a larger area that includes city infrastructure, meaning you will experience some light local traffic and see nearby facilities like a grain elevator and disposal area, though visitors frequently report that noise and odor are minimal and do not detract from a peaceful stay.

The geographical position in Southeast Kansas makes Humboldt a viable hub for exploring the wider region, and Camp Hunter serves as the perfect low-cost lodging option. The area features mostly flat terrain with scattered trees providing natural shade, which is a welcome feature during the warmer Kansas months. It provides a foundational resting spot for extended trips into the state's eastern side.

Listed as an RV park, however they allow tent camping. We paid $10/night and obtained a permit at city hall/police department. It’s more like a city park situated just on the outskirts of town and within view of the forestry & sewage disposal, so there was some light traffic throughout the weekday morning. We didn’t notice an odor even with the sewage disposal so close. There is a grain elevator nearby so we heard the hum activity of it throughout the night. There are restrooms, showers, potable water and electricity available. We couldn’t find a fire ring. It was just us and one other camper in an RV. Park play equipment available for kids. Peaceful stay.

I rode the Prairie Spirit Trail and camped here. Nice camping area. They should really install something so that you can grab a permit and pay at the site. We had the place to ourselves and enjoyed it. We will come back again.
