Stunning views! Elevation is pretty high (10k+) really feel the altitude thinning before you after panorama point. Bathrooms are smelly to be expected. Solid day time hike. Poor labeling as you continue to make your way down. Easy to go the wrong direction and end up in the skyline trail versus the Alta vista.
Wonderful hike! Not a lot of trail markers or cairns so having a GPS is helpful. Microspikes made walking the ice easier.
Legendary day hike to base camp. Went in late June. Snow the whole way. Endless postholing. Made for great glissading in the descent! Views are beyond amazing. 10000/10!! The altitude is tough too. But perseverance pays off, and I will forever be proud of this one. Saw a couple marmots too. Happy little fellas.
Best toilet above 10,000 feet in the state. Would use again. Just fyi... everything past this point is heavily crevassed, and you need to pay your alpine climbing fee to go higher... that's on top of all the training, equipment and education you need for alpine climbing in glaciated terrain.
Beautiful spot to rest on the way up Rainier. Bit basic and you'll be breathing farts all night, but coming out at 3 am and seeing the moonlight on the glacier, rope lines with headlights headed up ... A memory I'll cherish till my last.
