Nestled deep within the serene beauty of the Tennessee mountains, this isn't just a place to pitch a tent; it's a vibrant community hub, a musical sanctuary, and a "paradise" infused with warm Jamaican vibes. Camp Reggae is a destination that promises good vibes, even better people, and an unforgettable retreat for individuals, friends, and families looking for something truly special in our state.
Camp Reggae has garnered a reputation as a place of "pure magic," where the "Jamaican vibes" permeate the forest, creating an atmosphere of peace, joy, and community. Many visitors return "several years in a row," drawn back by the unique energy and the welcoming spirit of the place. It's a testament to the deep connections forged here, often described as feeling like an "adult summer camp" or a "little wilderness paradise." This deep sense of belonging and positive energy is a significant draw for Tennesseans looking for a different kind of outdoor adventure.
While the name clearly signals a strong musical and cultural influence, Camp Reggae is fundamentally a campground that embraces the natural environment. Guests have the freedom to choose from a "huge selection of different places to set up camp," whether it's in the woods on a ridge line, on a terrace overlooking a main stage, or in secluded spots near the stream on the property. This flexibility allows for a truly personalized camping experience, from primitive wilderness immersion to more accessible sites with some basic amenities.
The hosts, often mentioned by name such as Sonia, Jatti, and Marla, are consistently praised for their warmth, welcoming nature, and genuine hospitality. Their dedication to creating an inviting atmosphere is a key component of what makes Camp Reggae so special. Beyond the camping, the potential for authentic Jamaican food, drum circles, dancing, and community gatherings makes it a cultural experience as much as an outdoor one.
In the following sections, we'll delve deeper into the specific location and accessibility of Camp Reggae, explore the unique services and features that contribute to its "magical" reputation, and ultimately, explain why this distinctive spot in the Tennessee mountains is a perfect getaway for locals seeking an experience filled with good vibes and lasting memories.
Camp Reggae is wonderfully located at 204 Calvender Rd, Turtletown, TN 37391, USA. This address places it squarely within Polk County, a region of southeastern Tennessee celebrated for its rugged mountain landscapes, pristine rivers, and abundant outdoor recreation opportunities. Turtletown itself is a small, quiet community, offering a sense of seclusion and deep connection with nature, which is central to the Camp Reggae experience.
For Tennessee residents, accessing Camp Reggae involves a journey into the heart of the mountains. While it offers a secluded "wilderness paradise" feel, it is not entirely remote. It's described as "not too far off Route 64," a major highway that traverses southeastern Tennessee, providing a relatively direct route for many. Drive times are manageable from several key Tennessee cities: approximately 1 hour and 1 minute from Cleveland, 1 hour and 24 minutes from Chattanooga, and 1 hour and 48 minutes from Knoxville. This accessibility from major population centers makes it a viable option for weekend getaways or longer retreats for many Tennesseans.
However, it is worth noting that while the main roads are good, the road directly to the campground, particularly Calvender Rd, might be "a bit of an adventure" and "rocky," potentially difficult for some smaller cars or light trucks, especially at night. It is highly recommended to download the map area on Google Maps beforehand due to potential connectivity issues in a rural mountain setting.
The strategic positioning in Polk County means guests are within a short drive of significant natural attractions. The renowned Ocoee River, famous for its world-class whitewater rafting, is only about a 30-minute drive away, along with numerous great hiking trails in the surrounding Cherokee National Forest. The campground itself offers "great trails on the property" for wandering and exploring. There's also a "gorgeous overlook to watch the sunset," adding to the natural beauty that envelops the camp. This blend of remote charm and proximity to major outdoor recreational hubs makes Camp Reggae an ideal base for exploring the wild heart of Tennessee.

Pure magic! We go to so many festivals but there is something special in this forest. Jamaican vibes all over:)🎶👍
One of the most magical places you can go, such good vibes, and even better people. It's truly a Paradise in the mountains. Me an my friend's from highschool came several years in a row. Each time we brought more people. Haven't been in years, but I WILL BE BACK. CAMP REGGAE!!!!! ✌️☮️❤️🇯🇲
Just saw the documentary film on the making of Orchestrata, on YouTube .... If you are as unfamiliar with Camp Reggae as I have been all these years (and man, oh man, I've missed out!!!) I encourage you to check it out. What a terrific & positive endeavor, a labor of love it is! Loving kindness to a beat. One love for sure. I've cleared my calendar for next year's, & I can't wait. (Good is never wasted. Good always bears good, to ourselves & to others. This is a perfect example ....) Come join me!
1st timers as of Fri Aug 17th. Smaller crowd due to rain but quality in all the souls we encountered. Some areas could have been cleaned up better (some leftovers at sites from previous campers), but over all relaxing, refreshing, rejuvenating! Will be back!
I went with my mother for the first time quite along time ago and I love it. It’s a great place and honestly rather safe if you have children although I suggest you get a baby sitter for your first time going
