We really enjoyed our stay here. It was a nice quiet get away that had beautiful trees and several little hangout areas. It's right on Lake Dunlap with dock access, and each cabin has a grill on site. Cabins 1 and 2 have really steep narrow steps inside to a loft area, which aren't really safe for young children and could be a fall hazard. They do have other cabins on the property if the stairs are a concern for you. The cabins and decks have some wear and tear from years of people using them, but they are still nice.
The main reason we rented here was the property itself and not the cabin. The photos of the property were beautiful but we we got there it was a different story. The entire riverside was completely overgrown...to the point that you can’t even see the water if you’re sitting in the red chairs. When we made it down to the dock there were broken chairs and trash everywhere. The cabin was as expected but could definitely use better cleaning and some tlc. Dirty rugs, furniture, and broken blinds. Honestly that didn’t bother me nearly as much as the misleading photos of the grounds. I’m not sure when their pictures were taken, but it doesn’t look like that now. I text and emailed Thor & Courtney and got absolutely no reply. I spoke with the people in cabin 1 (we were in 2) and they were just as upset about the property. They also contacted Thor & Courtney before they arrived and simply asked where the best place to tube from was and they were told “you can google it”. Not my idea of hospitality. I have rented multiple places through VRBO and I have never been unhappy with a single one... this was a first.
Shower was super tiny, no bath tub, hard to give small children a bath. Kayaks and fire pit are shared between all cabins, so if one group gets them before you, tough luck, unless they are nice enough to share. We were there 3 nights, and didn't get to use the fire pit one time to make s'mores with the kids. We ended up using a barbecue pit to toast the marshmallows with. The red cabin lacked a can opener, so we had to borrow one from the people renting the main house. The lack of blinds and curtains is disturbing. If you're in the front bedroom facing the water, anybody outside can see right in through the big window door. The beds were comfortable, as were the pillows. The pullout couches though were absolutely not okay. Springs were missing all around both of them, that made them no good to use, even for small children. As everyone has said, the money used to rent this place out could be used for mini renovations and replacing old, tired work out pieces of furniture. The property is really pretty. We found ourselves cleaning up after other guests in other cabins, because we were scared of losing our deposit. Oh well.
BEAUTIFUL property! This is my 2nd time staying in the big house and I will come back as often as they let me! The house was super clean. They have everything u need from inside with lots of extra bedding for the sofa beds, to the outside with a propane tank for the grill. The neighbors were cool too. Not too close either, in case they weren't cool. Cant wait for next time!
The property was amazing! Plenty of beautiful green grass, grills, picnic tables and trees for shade. Then of course the fire pit for roasting s’mores in the evening when the property was illuminated by the hanging string lights. Just perfect family getaway. Cabins had all the essentials we needed.
