Wonderful place to get away for a night or two!!! It’s clean, quiet, and in the middle of the woods….lots of wildlife. So peaceful.
Beautiful state park. The campground is very quiet, nice, is clean. The sites are enough in space, not too big but not small. Some sites are full hook-ups and some sites are only electricity sites. There’s water spots near those sites for easy access to fresh water. I love that the Campground Host personally greeted us upon arrival. She is very friendly. Bathrooms and shower are well maintained and clean. There is a little playground for the small children. You can bring your dog and keep it on a leash at all times. There are a lot of trails to walk and hike and a very historic place called the Rose Island park. This is a great place to see birds, Deers, wild rabbits, turtles, Raccoon, skunks -yikes!!- and a wide variety of bugs, butterflies 🦋 … etc.. bring bug spray for the mosquitoes. We love how dark and peaceful is at night.
Nice clean campground. Nice restrooms, clean. Reasonable price. Be sure and take Rose Island tour.
Can't say much about the playground but the campground itself is great. Nice clean grassy sites. Plenty of privacy. Quiet peaceful area. Never seems to be crowded. Granted once you have done Rose Island theres not a lot of activity except fishing, boating on the Ohio River or other trails. Sometimes its nice to get away and turn off the electronics and dreary news and just unwind. This is a good place to do it.
Campgrounds are ok. VERY family oriented. Lots of bikers. Overall, I think we'll stay at the KOA next time. They are the same price and better value. This isn't necessarily a park you need to come back to again and again. But I'm glad we did it once. We stayed in campsite #7 Bathrooms and showers: 3. Facilities are dated. Drainage issues, not heated and kinda gross but the water was hot. And I've definitely seen worse Value: 3. The price is kind of average, but there's also a state park fee not included in your camping fee. Ends up being as much as a KOA with a lot less features. But you do get access to the entire park. There's not a lot to it, but it is pretty big. Rose island is a nice hike. Amenities: 2. Electric at the campsite. Some have full hookups I'm told. They don't even have a camp store. No wifi either. I found reception to be pretty spotty. Although it's noisy in the early evening with all the kids. It was very quiet at night. Dog friendly! Camp sites: 3. They are pretty spacious. But little privacy. Our level site was not level. I do really like the late check out. Location: It's a quiet, pretty area. But it's really far from all the touristy stuff. I was excited to stay where the abandoned amusement park was. But getting to anything else was a 30 to 40 to 60 minute drive. We enjoyed breakfast at the copper kettle a few miles away. Great value and good food.
