Candy Hill is a lovely campground, very well kept grounds. We stayed at site B-5 paved concrete pad, gas grill, patio table and chairs and a great fire pit. They have a nice play area for the little ones to enjoy, a nice fenced in pool area for summer visits. On the day we where to check out we encountered a problem with our jacks, the staff where very helpful with the name of a mobile tech that was able to get us back on the road. If your in the Winchester area or looking for a quite mountain get away you can't go wrong with Candy Hill campground. We would definitely stay again. I
Candyhill camp ground has followed through with its negative customer service. To be followed to my camp site by a employee and be told I was clocked at 10 mph and speed limit is 5 mph and should be glad it was this certain employee because anyone else would not have been as nice about it. 1. Where was the radar? 2. Where is the radar certification? I was told I was parked to close to the edge of the concrete before I was even done parking my camper. My wife was chased down as she was walking to the office (to get a parking pass) because she didn't stop and get a parking pass before going to our campsite. Camp ground was a joke. I'm not one to post negative things but this was harassment at it finest.
Our new favorite campground! Friendly, helpful staff. Site was level and beautiful. Campground was clean, well-maintained, and perfectly located. Jay, Scott, and Dennis were particularly helpful. We loved the chickens and all of the holiday blow-ups!! We stayed 2 nights in our travel trailer. We will definitely be back!
**Review of Candy Hill Campground** If you're searching for a place that prides itself on treating families like potential troublemakers, Candy Hill Campground is your destination. Be prepared to fork over daily fees just for the privilege of enjoying nature with your loved ones. Yes, that’s right—because nothing says “family-friendly” like a financial barrier to entry. The staff here seems to take their role as self-appointed guardians very seriously. You’ll find them driving around in their little patrol vehicles, keeping a close eye on every move you make. It’s as if they believe you might pull a fast one and set up a picnic without permission. So much for relaxation; you'll feel like you’re under constant surveillance. If you enjoy camping with a side of condescension, this is the place for you. Just know that at Candy Hill, you’re not just a guest; you’re a potential nuisance in their eyes. Choose wisely—there are better campgrounds that actually value your family’s presence without the added hassle.
We came to this campground with an open mind after seeing all the negative reviews. We really wanted to be able to debunk the negatives. Because we are true campers and true outdoors people. We love meeting people and enjoy camping. But…..we just couldn’t give more than 2 stars. And this is kind of generous of us to be honest. Good: beautiful and well manicured. Our site was large and comfortable and level. Store is well stocked. Bad: unfortunately all the reviews about the staff being unfriendly is TRUE. This is one of our most important parts of staying in a campground- feeling welcome and comfortable. Here you will Not find that at all. They drive around all day and half the night in golf carts; they don’t wave, they don’t smile; we even had one man stop and scream at us to prove our dog was on a leash! We were so shocked because we were just sitting and relaxing by our fire and our dog was sound sleep under our chair, not even moving or barking or anything! Made us feel so bad!!!!!!! There was no reason to be so aggressive with guests who were literally sitting silent with our sleeping dog. And yes, he was leashed - as I said, we respect rules. I am ok with rules. We always respect each and every campground’s rules. However- this place is pretty ridiculous. ‘ no barking dogs’ lol And the no gate/fence rule for pets…. Every other campground we have been to All around the US, have thanked us for our great gate and set up. And how much they appreciate the fencing. We were told ‘it’s a Virginia state law’. Which is probably not true. We’ve been to about 10 Virginia campgrounds and not one of them had this ridiculous rule. Restroom/showers: dirty and out dated. Which was a surprise because the rest of the grounds are beautiful. Staff: most unwelcoming, unfriendly, intimidating group we have ever encountered in over 25 years of camping all over the country. This is big for us because we paid a LOT of money for our stay. And feeling welcome is a big thing for us. Highway noise: 24:7. It is loud and you will Not relax much. Speaking with other campers around us, seems as if not many of them were happy at all. I would hope that with all the same negatives campers are experiencing here; this owner would relax a little and let the paying guests relax and enjoy their stay. Best of luck, but we would never return.
