Like all our county parks...they all need money to update the roadways and sites. It's not unpleasant to picnic here. Nice river. Nice lawns. And peaceful.
During the week, expect to have nearly the whole park to yourself! Situated on the Applegate River, it is perfect for picnics, kids, picking blackberries, swimming, birding, fishing, and playing with dogs. Throughout the park are interpretive signs, Cheryl Garcia's beautiful sculptures, a little free library, a wonderful playground, little hiking trails, spawning salmon, tadpoles and lizards, and a plethora of wildflowers in the spring and summer.
Beautiful place to recreate. We just went for a day trip to swim in the Applegate River. The water was cold, and we might have liked it more if we had brought inflatable devices. It was breezy, but if we had made it out the day before, when it was a hundred degrees, we would have loved the cool water. By the start of September the Campground was extremely dry and brown and dusty and no campfire allowed. It might be pretty earlier in the year. Make sure you bring cash or a check. I am from out of State and did not realize the park didn't take cards. We will without a doubt visit again.
Great place, though we did pick a day when there were three weddings going on. We found a secluded spot and had some snacks. Great river access with showers and clean facilities on the camping side. Lots of dogs, so it you're not a dog person, you've been warned
One of the most beautiful parks I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Over 50 years of love has been poured into this park despite obstacles that it has faced and it really shows. Anytime I am near the Applegate community I will always go out of my way to visit this park. There is seating, trashcan, sculptures, BBQs, a river you can swim in (or go panning, a park, bathrooms, a volley ball net, trails, etc. You name it, this park has it. Wildlife everywhere. One of the best parks Oregon has to offer.
