I spent a super hot weekend here but it was so beautiful it almost didn't even matter! Lol. The lake was nice and cool and I was very thankful to have showers in the restroom as well. I want to return again for another weekend getaway, but during the fall or very early springtime area. We brought our two dogs here. They had a good time and everyone was friendly to them as well. (Don't worry, we cleaned up after them.) Other dogs were around too.
Beautiful view and right next to the water. Little price but you get Electric and Water. No dump. We went middle of week so very quiet. We did not use the showers of the bathrooms They are just portable ones.
Great area with each space having lake access. Quiet spot, easy access. No working showers, bathroom facilities are below average... ie neglected. Tips when making reservations via phone: - ask to have a spot spaced apart if possible. Came with maybe 1/4 full sports and they placed everyone right next to one another. - ask if their bathrooms and porta potties have been serviced and working. Three were closed and two just plain over full. - ask if their showers are working. Were turned off in late March - ask about their build out of a general store. It was a construction zone in March. Bring everything with you or go back into Apache Junction. There are lots of street lights on at night to help getting around.
I really liked it here. You get lakeside camping - but it is expensive. They also have very bright street lamps on all night that takes away from the full experience, but there's nothing to be done for that. We stayed from a Friday and left on Monday and had a lovely time. Showers are available as well as restrooms and port-a-pottys.
Expensive and overpriced. No dump station, with a $25 fee for the staff to bring down a honeypot. Bright lights on all night. Sites too close together and not cleaned. No firewood for sale. Port a potties. Not understanding what I paid $85 a night for.
Overall had a good time and would visit again, each RV spot had shade from trees. We had to rent out an RV spot for tent camping and didn't really have a problem with it, price wasn't much more and the website said it had more amenities then just the tent camping spots so it was fine. We show up and tell them we have a tent and they charged us 10 more dollars because we had a tent and not an RV. Found out our power box didn't work, the outlets were melted like the last people fried it and didn't tell staff. Because its right off the road we heard motorcycles all night flying past the campground. I get that it's out of the campgrounds control but just something we had to deal with for the two nights we were there.
Canyon Lake Campground Run by Suntex Marinas This place is the worst run campground I have ever seen. We stayed 14 days and for the cost it was pathetic. The view and the lake itself was beautiful. First off after setting up camp with our 22’ Fleetwood (very short!!) and parking truck and boat which fit nicely in the spot. Jenny the Jeep lady (office worker) comes barreling down to tell us we have to move over several feet so others can pull in. (She did say at checkin “if it fits you can park it at your site” but she would charge $25 ) We were within our campsite lines by 3ft on each side. She then tells us we are not parked according to the map. I was never given a map at check in. Turns out they have two different maps but the painted lines on the pavement was where we parked. We worked out the issue with our neighbors so they could pull trailers in. There is a white pipeline water or electric that is coming out of the ground and right in front of our campsite as a tripping hazard until its broken, then who knows?! There was grass at one time but the underground sprinklers are shutoff so its dirt and trashy. The garbage dumpsters are located throughout but are usually full and not emptied enough thus trash gets blown around all over. Showers non existent even though there is a sign indicating where they are. Bathroom only one is just ok. Its a compost toilet but they have an issue with the grey water so it has to be pumped regularly. Porta potties everywhere and cleaned never. Pumped out on a schedule but not enough. There is a restroom at the Marina office that has sinks that are installed on a flexible wall and lean forward so they don’t drain. The mens room has a grey water smell. They are not cleaned very often and when 120+ people come to take a Dolly paddleboat cruise its too overloaded. The Marinas office/store has a few items. No liquor. The building has a strong smell of skunk all the time and they keep the doors open but its bad. Maybe get an exterminator to rid the pesky critter. I would not buy any clothing there as the skunk smell permeates the material. There is no dump station here but at one time was at the campground exit. They will pump out your tanks for $25. Most campgrounds I have traveled to don’t charge for the dump station if you are camped there so to charge when you used to have a dump station is unreasonable. There’s a picture of a kids playground set but it doesn’t exist. There is a $25 per extra vehicle charge or boat trailer but the parking spaces are only 9 ft wide and most boat trailers are jammed to close so two spots are used. Beware of eleltricl wires on the ground near the porta potties. The canyon is beautiful on a full moon night Some of the workers were nice and helpful but it seems they are under staffed for the work needing to be done.
We have been coming here for about 10 years. It's gone through a couple of different managements the restaurant is closed and gone now and the current management is apparently focused more on generating revenue through adding boat slips rather than maintaining the RV park. The RV spots were great, not so much anymore. All the grass is dead from lack of water even though it is literally next to the lake. We still have a great time, just book very early. The shower is now apparently only at the office which is a long trip from the camp area.
