Best beach for boogie boarding, surfing, relaxing - that I’ve found so far in the world! Beaches are clean, natural, not crowded. The pic with “lots of people” is the most crowded part of the beach!
We have been coming here for five years now. My family and I are from the country side in Ohio and have a farm. We love nature and the natural setting of the campgrounds is awesome. If you are looking for "urban style" camping with clean flat sites and no natural setting I would recommend going elsewhere. If you want to feel like you are enjoying a park without disturbing what was here thousands of years before you then I suggest this campground. You can access the beach by foot or by a four wheel drive vehicle. There are plenty of areas where the beach is closed for traffic if that is what you prefer. We like being able to take the truck onto the beach. It is rarely crowded and we head out in the morning and park. We spend the day on the beach fishing and swimming and since we have the truck we have all our food with us to cook on the beach. We see plenty of people walk to the beach and we have done this before as well. We have seen a turtle nest excavation each year we have come here. Pretty cool to see. Pets are welcome and campgrounds are quiet. Can let the kids ride their bikes without worrying about them getting hurt or lost. Did mention the view? Each site is unique and there is something for everyone!
An awesome campground for those who enjoy privacy, simplicity, and roughing it a little. I can say if you prefer big chain campsites with cushy facilities, I don’t recommend this place. But it’s awesome, a little bit of a walk from the beach but easily walkable from every campsite. We had a great time, but after a walk around the campground I think your experience could depend on your campsite. While some of them are flat, large, and mostly sandy, others are uneven and short, and a small site with less privacy. Personally I recommend booking on the upper loop on the hill (P sites) if you more value privacy and views of the dunes (again, hit or miss), the bottom loop if you’d rather be closer to the beach and don’t mind neighbors, and the connecting streets not at all. They’re steep roads, short sites, closely packed in, and tend to be uneven. We booked P61 and it checked pretty much all the boxes. Staff at the front gate were friendly but nothing special. I found the restrooms & showers very helpfully located on connecting streets. Clean, but again nothing special. Beach access is probably a five minute walk across some water and then over the dunes. When you arrive, you’ll find a very pretty beach, but keep in mind it is drivable and therefore there’s almost always trucks parked on it. The beach is awesome, especially if you enjoy shell-collecting and body surfing. There are no hookups at the campsite ! I’m sure it says somewhere but if you’re one to skim the details, you might miss this. There is water centrally located, but the dump station is off property. There are also no fires aloud in the campground, but on the beach they’re allowed. Campsite has a nice grill and picnic bench, although some campsites have them in a bad location relative to the paved parking pad. Overall, I would say I would come back here and recommend it to anyone traveling to the Hatteras/Frisco area. It’s a good 1-2 night stay.
The worst place I've ever experienced. To start with I'm a disabled vet and I let them know when I went on line and that what size rig and that I had a golf cart, that's how I get around. When arrived there was no one there, so we drove around found our spot and nope we were not fitting there. An hr later after calling someone called back cool. It sucked every thing off the road stuck you. Were cool made do that night. That morning 8am after sleeping all night with out electrical, park ranger Karen I thought the VA was rude she made the DMV look like Disney.. No golf carts it's registered, no trailer in the grass it's thorny said.. I didn't not care I was a Disabled Vet to her..move or get tickets.She acted like she was out of her mind We left forget that we paid for another night. Nope not me
