Bridge is in, high risk for washout soon. River is raging! Smoky when we went, made for some interesting views. Great hike, came from the carbon river entrance. Be prepared for 5 miles of walking on a gravel road before getting to trail.
This place is amazing, I go here every year with my brother as did my father and grandfather, my boys when old enough will hopefully do the same. Most beautiful place in the whole Northwest and I know I've been all over it. Ps the bear was really nice don't be scared he just wants to get across the bridge and be on its way.
These photos were all taken near the Carbon River, some are Lake Mowich and Lake Elenor, which is about 1300 ft gain in elevation. It wasn't a difficult hike, and the destination is worth the journey.
Not a bad site but one of the less scenic of the Wonderland Trail. Pretty much created in an area of fallen trees. If you’re itinerary allows I would recommend continuing on to Dick Creek. If you do end up staying here, though, the sites are good size, flat, and separated. Close to the Carbon River Suspension Bridge too. I had a few hikers wander into camp while I was there to check it out since it was so close to the bridge.
5 spots, first come first serve (no reservations) but the Rangers will tell you how busy it is when they give you your pass. No fires, but a rudimentary latreen to use by all sites. Each big enough for about a 3 or 4 person tent. Flat sites too. 1 min walk to a nearby creek for water. Good canopy coverage.
