Gorgeous Views, Clean Vaulted Toilet, Helpful Rangers, Friendly Store Clerk, Friendly Campers. This is the highest spot, Carter Knolls, within the Carter Lake Campgrounds, and being such was extremely hot even with a canopy tent. There is a steep path to the lake (see photos). We camped at C4, plenty of space for out popup camper and pick up. Nice fire ring and the grate was nice and heavy, if you plan on cooking with this grate bring something with smaller spacing. Not the lake for fishing from the shore. May be a nice spot for cooler temperatures if it is not windy.
I wish I had my fishing gear with me as I told the fish and game officer, thank you sir for your service and your professionalism I will be back but probably in my Ford not Jeep.
If you are prepared for the terrain and ANY type of weather, you will enjoy this site... I was amused by the other campers unprepared for calm still air becoming gale force winds... The patio roof is excellent for shade and a hammock, but heavy rain blows sideways and will soak everything... My neighbors slept in the car and pitched their tent into the dumpster in the morning... Lol...
C08 is a very nice spot, not to close to other people but the WIND at night is insane! Break down your stuff before 9.
Camped @ c04 unit. Nice view of lake but no trees...ok in October though. Best with tent not much room for small camper. C05 unit and higher have more space between them, but better suited for tents. Friendly rangers.
