Spanning 31.48 acres atop a rolling hill, Carthage Gap Camp provides a serene escape while remaining conveniently situated between the urban conveniences of Athens and Belpre, Ohio.

The environment of Carthage Gap Camp is one of its most defining features. Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Southeast Ohio, the campground boasts two charming spring-fed ponds, locally known as "Craig's Lake." These ponds are a significant draw, particularly for fishing enthusiasts, providing a tranquil setting for angling. One of the ponds is also available for swimming during the summer months, offering a refreshing way to cool off. The surrounding area features rolling hills and dense woodlands, characteristic of the Appalachian region, providing a scenic backdrop for outdoor activities. The campground's layout is designed to accommodate a large number of RVs, with a reported 135 sites. While some sites are shaded, offering natural cover, a portion of the newer areas may have less immediate tree cover for transit guests. The overall aesthetic is well-maintained and clean, contributing to a pleasant and inviting atmosphere for all visitors.

Carthage Gap Camp excels in providing a wide array of services and features tailored for RV camping. All 135 sites are equipped with full hookups, meaning campers have access to water, electric (30/50 AMP), and sewer connections at their individual sites. This comprehensive utility provision is a key aspect of the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category, ensuring a comfortable stay for all types of recreational vehicles, including big rigs. For added convenience, the campground offers free Wi-Fi, allowing guests to stay connected. On-site facilities include a bathhouse with clean restrooms and hot showers, as well as laundry facilities, which are essential services for extended stays. Propane refills are available, with tanks inspected before refilling to ensure compliance with federal regulations. Firewood can also be ordered and delivered directly to your site, making it easy to enjoy a campfire experience. The campground also accommodates pets, with a policy requiring them to be on a leash and owners to clean up after them, maintaining a respectful environment for all.

Beyond the essential hookups and facilities, Carthage Gap Camp distinguishes itself with a variety of recreational features and planned activities, fostering a strong sense of community and family fun. For active guests, there is a full basketball court and two playgrounds, providing ample space for children and adults to enjoy outdoor games. An events pavilion serves as a central hub for various planned activities throughout the season, which have historically included pancake breakfasts, potluck dinners, ice cream socials, corn roasts, hayrides, and even a "Christmas in August" event. During holiday weekends, such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, the campground often requires a three-night minimum stay, indicating a high demand for these festive periods. The Halloween Trick-or-Treat event is also a popular major event. The presence of two spring-fed ponds allows for both fishing and swimming, appealing to a wide range of interests. The campground's commitment to creating a "family-friendly" environment is evident in the diversity of its offerings, going beyond just a place to park an RV to provide a full recreational experience.

Carthage Gap Camp also offers both nightly and seasonal site options, catering to different camping preferences. Seasonal sites come with perks such as parking at the site for one vehicle, allowing daytime guests, free Wi-Fi, fishing, swimming, full hookup, and a fire ring. There are even possibilities for upgraded seasonal sites with features like concrete pads, concrete parking, or wooden decks, some of which may overlook the upper pond, providing enhanced comfort and views. This flexibility in site offerings, from short-term stays to long-term seasonal leases, highlights the campground's dedication to meeting diverse customer needs within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category.

Promotional information, while not always explicitly stated as marketing slogans, is strongly conveyed through the camp's offerings and positive camper feedback. The emphasis on "family-friendly," "well-maintained," and "clean" facilities frequently appears in reviews, serving as organic testimonials to the campground's quality. The inclusion of free Wi-Fi, full hookups, and a variety of recreational amenities like fishing ponds, swimming, and playgrounds are inherent selling points. The campground's convenient location between Athens and Belpre offers guests the opportunity to explore nearby attractions such as the Desonier State Nature Preserve, just half a mile away, offering hiking opportunities. Other close attractions include Larry's Pizza & Subs, CAST Away Kayaking for Hocking River rentals, and Coolspot's Country Market for Amish goods. Further afield, guests can explore Athens (home to Ohio University, Joe Burrow Stadium, Ohio's Windy 9 motorcycle route, and The Dairy Barn Arts Center) or Marietta (known for the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival, Campus Martius Museum, and People's Bank Theatre). This blend of on-site activities and proximity to regional points of interest enhances the overall value proposition of Carthage Gap Camp.

Spacious, level parking spaces with lush green grass. All the amenities you'd expect- sewer, water, power, playgrounds, and bath house. Park is very well-maintained. The owner was friendly and guided me into my space. Other campers are respectful and quiet. It really feels like you're in a secret oasis in the woods. We didn't want to leave! This place is a gem worth the drive.

Nicest campground we have been too! Everyone so friendly yet COVID aware. Nice big camp sites. We used one of their pull through sites for our 38foot camper. No issues at all. Felt very safe. Grounds nicely maintained. Even had an ice cream truck come around both nights which was fun. Recommended without reservation.
