We stayed at the Rifle Gap State Park, Cedar Campgrounds on our way across Colorado. The state park and campgrounds are situated on the Rifle Gap Reservoir between the mountains. The setting was beautiful. We stayed on site 10 near the waterfront on a private site with awesome views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Our site was a nice roomy, level site and had electrical hook ups, a picnic table with private shelter and fire ring. The Cedar Campground loop also had a nice clean rest room facility. We had a great stay.
Our first visit to Rifle Gap, and we really enjoyed our time. The reservoir is nice and we enjoyed the swim beach and fishing. The camping spots are similar to the ones in all the state parks, which means they're functional and consistent, without being fancy. And reasonably priced.
Cedar Campground was a great camping experiance. We drove in from Denver and the drive to Rifle Gap State Park from New Castle was beautiful driving past some ranches and along a little river. The campground was more desert than mountians, but that was great for time on the lake, which has a lovely teal color on a bright clear day. There isn't much shade or trees so make sure to bring your easy up and camping umbrellas. Most people were in campers so it was very quite in the evenings. The bathrooms had running water and quarter operated showers which are a godsend after a hot sunny day on the water. The western slope is beautiful with Easy and fun hiking. Will be coming back to Cedar Campground. :)
Beautiful campground in the hills of Colorado overlooking Rifle Gap and a reservoir. The sites are well taken care of as are the restrooms. We stayed in site 69 which is the highest site in the loop and had a doe and fawn visit us several times. Loved the covered picnic table in each site, which I believe was the first time I have ever had this feature in any of the hundreds of campgrounds I have stayed in.
Rifle Gap State Park has a spectacular scenery and their campsites are kept really clean, they have several spots with amazing views of the lake! The camp hosts were great! Very friendly and helpful!
