The park was fantastic! Many childhood memories there... the park ranger was not compassionate to my situation and told me not to come back and that I wasn't welcomed at the other county part in cedar county. I was paid up not a mess maker or a noise problem the truck used to pull fifth wheel got wrecked and the back up to help me blew his transmission out... ranger didn't care. Just wanted me to leave... also I was the only one there.... not a friendly place even though they are open all year around... I do not recommend based on my experience
Had fun walking around on the trails & on the sandbar. Very peaceful & relaxing. Only 4 stars because there isn't many place to park if you're not camping, otherwise it's great (:
I don't know if we were in the main area but there was just a Porta potty, and a large pole light that flooded our tent with light. Grass was well maintained and we were solo in this area
I grew up in these parks, in fact I was born in the old dance hall at the top of the hill. I spent my youth fishing in the lime stone quarries, swimming in the cedar river, and hiking all over these trails. It is an amazing place with so much history and natural beauty. There is even a prehistoric Native American cave just north of the bridge on the east bank of the river. If you are ever driving through Iowa on Interstate 80 take the time to have a picnic lunch here and enjoy this hidden time lost gem of a park.
Great trails old snowmobile trail used to go out by Plato ia.
