We tent camped at Chas River campground for 2 nights (Fri/Sat) this past weekend. For the most part, we had a very enjoyable experience. Our tent site was on the rather large side and covered with heavy brush on 3 sides, we had 2 picnic tables and a firepit. The only issue we had was with some neighbors who thought it was ok to BLAST their music (they had the hatch of their car wide open to blast their car stereo throughout the campground) right up until quiet hours commenced at 10p, and even then one of our other neighboring tent campers had to walk over and ask them to turn it off at the stroke of 10p, otherwise who knows how long they would've continued? We called the campground office several times between 8p-10p and left messages, but apparently they don't monitor messages after hours? So on Sat morning, as we were heading out for our manatee tour, we stopped by the office to inquire in person and the female manager told us there was "nothing she could do" as quiet hours didn't start until 10p. I replied, yes, I get that, but how about 'respectful hours'? Just because everyone needs to be quiet from 10p-7a doesn't give anyone the right to blast their music up until 10p. She basically just shrugged her shoulders and told us there was nothing she could do, to which I say that's not at all true. Other than the lack of any management concern and/or willingness to intervene with an unruly camper, we had a good time.
Amazing! We had a great time. Staff is nice and helpful. We stayed at the tent area. Campsites were clean. The kayak area was nice and it was easy to rent them.
Omg! This is not our 1st time. This is well over 10times. And we always have such a great & spectacular time. The spring water always feels so amazing and natural. We love every second & minute we spend on this river. Can't wait for spring & summer to come back around for more adventures to come.
A nice place to launch your kayak to see manatees in February. A 2024 hurricane caused damage to one of their buildings. Therefore, they only have a port a john available.
