U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District operates and maintains this navigation lock on the Cumberland River in Ashland City, Tennessee. The lock accommodates commercial and recreational vessels. It costs nothing for the public to utilize the lock, which is essentially a water elevator that assists boats with going upstream and downstream through the dam.

The drive in is unexpected as all back roads but views and area are nice. A lot of fishing at the dam and people were out on the day we were there. Parks and restrooms open in late spring. Drove through a few times in the last week and people were fishing and the boat ramp parking lot was full. Realized that if you like a nice and safer place to ride bicycles this is a good place. Able to ride from the campground area and all the way past the lock and dam to the tail water boat ramp and park. May even see tugs pushing their goods up or downstream and through the lock. Well worth the look and drive through just to check it out.

It would depend on what it is you are looking for. The beach area was unfortunately so packed you would barely have room for your family. Fishing around the locks and launch was great. Long area where you can spread out and enjoy the peacefulness of the river.

Awesome family park and picnic area. Fishing was not good, but maybe due to invasive carp problem plaguing many waterways. The Dam and Lock were very cool. The entire area was well maintained and clean. The boat ramp was steep, be careful!

Nice park area & decent fishing spot, does get crowded at times. Used to be excellent fishing area until TVA dumped alot of big stones along shoreline, it really never recovered....my guess it it covered up some holes along shore where fish used to hold it & changed a bit of the current. TVA doesn't do a good job regulating water flowage either
