Whether you're camping in an RV or staying in one of their cozy cabins, Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins offers a unique experience that caters to both small and large groups.
The campground is family-owned and operated, which adds a personal touch to the guest experience. The property features a beautiful creek running through it, offering opportunities for fishing and relaxation. The surrounding mature trees and peaceful setting create a tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. Guests can enjoy walking trails, reading by the creek, or simply sitting under the shade of a tree while soaking in the natural beauty.
Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins offers a variety of accommodations to suit different preferences and needs. They provide RV sites with water and electric hookups, as well as primitive camping options for those who prefer a more rustic experience. The campground also has charming cabins that are perfect for families or couples seeking a bit more comfort while still being close to nature. Each cabin is equipped with basic amenities and styled in a cozy, inviting manner.
One of the standout features of Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins is its affordability. Guests often praise the "absolute lowest rates" compared to other campgrounds in the area. The campground also offers ice at an incredibly low price, which is a great convenience for those staying extended periods or planning outdoor activities.
The location of the campground is another advantage. It is within walking distance of the Tuckasegee River, offering fishing opportunities and stunning views. The casino is also nearby, providing entertainment options for adults. While the campground itself is peaceful and removed from the hustle and bustle, it's still close enough to area attractions for day trips.
Guests have praised the genuine and friendly nature of the staff at Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins. The property is known for its welcoming atmosphere, with staff members always willing to assist and ensure a pleasant stay. One guest even mentioned a friendly cat that roams the grounds and will gladly accept treats from visitors.
While there are many positives to highlight about Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins, there are also a few things to be aware of. The campground is described as "small," which means it may not have space for larger rigs, such as 41-foot 5th-wheel trailers. Guests with bigger vehicles should be prepared for tight spots and potential challenges when leaving. Additionally, while the majority of reviews are positive, there have been a few instances where unleashed dogs belonging to staff members have approached leashed pets, causing concern for some guests.
Overall, Cherokee Campground & Craig's Cabins is an excellent choice for those seeking a peaceful, affordable camping or cabin experience in the North Carolina mountains. With its stunning natural surroundings, friendly staff, and unique charm, it continues to be a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts and families alike.

We called a week before for a month stay, with lots of vehicles, they went above and beyond to accommodate us. Family owned, beautiful creek, great fishing, tons of little hide away places to read, or just sit. The cabins are super cute. This is a small campsite, very peaceful. All staff are super genuine, nice people. A lovely cat, that will come running to you, IF you have treats. The cheapest ice around. The river is within walking distance, as is the casino. The ABSOLUTE lowest rates, you won't find a better campsite. Thank you Barry and everyone that made this a ho.e away from home.
If you have a larger rig, this campground will be tight for you. We have a 41ft 5th wheel and it was tight in our spot which was one of the larger spots. Leaving is a little bit of a challenge for bigger rigs. I saw some of the larger rigs turning around and going in the wrong direction to go out so they didn't have to do the very tight turn to get out (it's a 1 way loop). While walking my leashed small and friendly dogs, 2 of the campground dogs who belong to a worker and were allowed to roam charged them and were extremely aggressive towards them. I was very concerned they were going to hurt my dogs. No one from the campground came out to deal with them and I was in front of the office and the house a manager/worker lives in. After a while they stopped and just walked off. If you have a spot on the creek/river, it's a pretty view. Campground is older and the trees are mature. It's a quiet setting. We did not use the bathhouse so I don't know the condition of it.
This is the best campground I have been at! My husband has been coming here since he was a little boy. Barry and Candace treat everyone like family! It’s peaceful and relaxing. They have bunkhouses, and cabins plus tent sites and RV sites. So if you want a perfect place to relax and enjoy this is the place you need to be!
Great location. Stayed in a cabin and it had a great view of the river. The issue was when we went to lay our heads down the first night and realized there was unfortunately a bed bug infestation in the cabin. Owner was nice enough to refund money spent for the cabin but not nice enough to reimburse for money spent on new suitcases and money spent at the laundromat.
A small Jewel that has been my best kept secret of a vacation/camping spot for many years... but... I just couldn't keep myself from telling/talking about it to family, friends, coworkers & anyone having a vacation conversation with! The 1st two generation owners have been super friendly, accommodating & genuine - excited to get to know the 3rd!
