This is an pretty camp ground! It's well maintained (they redid the road when we were here) and the ranger checks in regularly to inform people about fire danger or questions. The restroom is clean and there's toilet paper. Plenty of dumpsters and you won't find much garbage in the camp spots. The creek was dry, but if you follow the creek north, you'll find a spring and from there the water flows slowly. The spots are spacious and we had no trouble to get in with our 19ft van. We also saw a class-A and a camper. The road is nearby, but it's pretty quiet. Lots of butterflies and squirrel.
SH15 had been closed for about a week for sealing, and I was first out the gate when it reopened. I went straight to #1 at Cherry Creek, the best site IMO. It's 8:39am, birds are squawking, a squirrel is having fits, not a leaf is stirring, no other humans are up yet. Nice.
April was a beautiful time to visit. Cool at night warm enough during day to hike and not be to hot. Beautiful area. Campground small enough and sites spaced apart well enough that even when all the spots were full it didn't feel to busy. Loved my time here.
Perfect little spot nestled on the side of a winding forest road. Surprisingly quiet for being next to a road. Get there early or you won't get a spot! Nice for a few days of relaxing car camping. They have a permanent private restroom which you can lock but it can smell a bit foul, it is a hole in the ground after all. We had fun collecting rocks in the dried up stream next to our site. My daughter loved the close proximity to other campers and made friends with a little two year old girl! We will be back!
I stayed here during the Early Times, became "home" of sorts. Tall pines, spirits in the winds, and getting trapped by the creek. Good times.
