Cherry Creek State Park Campground Introduce

Welcome to Cherry Creek State Park Campground, an amazing destination within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, located at 91 Gold Rush Loop, Aurora, CO 80015. This campground offers a pleasant respite from urban Denver, providing a wealth of activities and a well-maintained environment for families, friends, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Environment: Cherry Creek State Park Campground boasts a diverse environment. While offering lush foliage and a large reservoir, providing a natural escape, some local road noise is noticeable. The campground features different loop environments; the Cottonwood Grove loop is known for its large, mature trees offering ample shade, while the Gold Rush loop tends to be more of an open prairie with fewer large trees. The park also includes a marina area that has been likened to a tropical setting with a sandy area and a beachside bar, all within the Colorado landscape.

Services and Features: This campground offers a wide array of options and features. It's an ideal place for spending time with family and friends, with activities catering to various interests. These include fishing, numerous water sports on the large reservoir, grilling at provided facilities (you can bring your own food to grill), relaxing on the shores, camping in various site types (including RV sites with full hookups available via reservation), viewing wildlife, sunbathing, boat riding, and playing sports like volleyball, soccer, and football. There is a huge space dedicated for kids and families to enjoy, often with drinks, food, and a playground.

Suitability: Cherry Creek State Park Campground is suitable for a wide range of visitors, from families with children to groups of friends and RV owners. The availability of RV sites with full hookups makes it a convenient option for RV travelers. The spacious areas and diverse activities make it perfect for weekend getaways and longer stays. However, those seeking a completely isolated wilderness experience should be aware of the nearby urban noise.

Nearby Activities: Beyond the campground itself, Cherry Creek State Park offers extensive recreational opportunities. The large reservoir is central to many activities, including boating and water sports. The park is also great for beach volleyball. While the reviews mention that currently, access from the west side to the east side of the park (or vice versa) is restricted due to road work, a detour via the Dam Road (requiring you to leave and re-enter the park, so remember your pass) is available. The marina area with its sandy beach and bar provides a unique recreational option.

Promotional Information: Cherry Creek State Park Campground is a wonderful and 100% Colorado experience, offering a clean and pleasant environment maintained by a caring team of campground hosts. It provides a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a multitude of activities in a convenient location near Denver. With options ranging from shady, tree-covered sites in the Cottonwood Grove loop to the more open prairie of the Gold Rush loop, and RV sites with full hookups available by reservation, it caters to diverse camping preferences. The park’s extensive amenities, including water sports, fishing, sports fields, and family-friendly areas, ensure a memorable stay. Despite some road noise, the overall experience and the range of activities make it a worthwhile destination for a recreational getaway. For reservations of RV sites with full hookups, please plan ahead. Remember to take your pass if traveling between the east and west sides of the park via the Dam Road due to current road work.

A pleasant respite from urban Denver with lush foliage and a wonderfully large reservoir - but local road noise is still apparent for those seeking a true wilderness experience…but overall well worth the trade off! Clean and pleasant campground well maintained by a caring corp of campground hosts. RV sites with full hookups can be obtained via reservation and some loops have large mature trees for shade such as the Cottonwood Grove loop. The Gold Rush loop tends to be more of an open prairie environment with few larger shade trees. The marina will take you to the tropics with a sandy area and a beachside bar…while still in the Rockies. Currently you can’t get from west side to the east side of the park (or vice versa) due to road work being done but a quick hop on the Dam Road will take you there - but you have to leave the park so take your pass with you. Overall - wonderful and 100% Colorado.

We enjoyed our four night stay. Sites were large, clean, and paved. Some sites had full hookups. Any size RV or tent site is available. Bath facilities were numerous and modern. Trees were plentiful,, but Star Link worked. Paved hiking and bike trails, an amphitheater for programs, wildlife and bird viewing area, marina, and dog park - no complaints here. It is very close to Aurora to get anything you might need or want. Would recommend this popular campground. NOTE: Cottonwood Grove camp host needs to tidy up his site. It is a real eyesore.

Beautiful park, great spaced sites, FHU in most loops. Coyotes, magpie, geese and deer (HUGE deer) seen daily. Walking the loops woth the dogs was great exercise. Hosts were nice. Neighbors dogs barked constantly the ENTIRE time. Humans could be outside with the dogs, the dogs still didn't shut up (Aussies, not tiny yappy dogs). They also had zero problem with letting the dogs run around the campground, but another man with a GSP didn't see where leash laws and common sense applied to him either. We have dogs, and I get wanting them to exercise themselves, but walk to a non inhabited part of the park and let them run. Having your dog pee on our stuff, crap in our yard and constantly meet us/our dogs at our door, in our site makes you a jerk. Maybe if rangers patrolled the campgrounds they could get the issue in check? Not a fan and I have no problem yelling at your dog.

Sites are very large and kept neatly by a large friendly staff. You can hear the highway noises from the campground but they aren't overwhelming, nor can you see the traffic. I consider that as a reasonable tradeoff for such easy access to the major roadways. We are from out of state and had to purchase day use passes for each day we stayed @ $11/day to cover the rig (if pulling a toad, you are given a pass for that vehicle as part of the fee) in addition to the camping fee, so consider that when you budget. It was a no-brainer for us getting a full h/u site near down-town. In the gold rush loop, wifi had a strong, stable signal and good data-rate.

This state park campground is conveniently located near Denver and offers great accessibility. The campsites are spacious and comfortable, which makes for a pleasant stay. It’s so popular that it gets fully booked every weekend. That said, the constant noise from street racers at night was a downside. The sink was clogged and unusable, and showers require a credit card payment of $1.50. Overall, I’d give a better rating to Chatfield State Park.

• Great campground for enjoying nature while still having close access to the city. It's located right across the road from the reservoir/beach with direct access to miles of trails for walking, running, biking, etc. and nice views of the surrounding mountains or grasslands. • Daily park admission is *not* included with your campsite, it is a separate fee. If you are staying 8+ days, just buy an annual pass. • In addition to the campground fee and park admission fee, there is also a separate Cherry Creek Water Basin daily fee. If you're staying 3+ days, just pay the annual fee. • Campsites are fairly flat with enough room to have some privacy. I believe each one is assigned its own magpie :) Sites are close enough to the road to hear traffic throughout the day. • Paid showers ($1.50 for 5 minutes, credit card only) are available and are cleaned twice a day. • Paid laundry (starting at $1.50 a load, quarters only) is also available. Coin machine is permanently out of service, so you'll need to bring your own and washers/dryers are limited so don't go at checkout time like everyone else unless you want to wait. • Each time we have stayed the campground has been relatively quiet, but it is very popular so I highly recommend booking in advance (especially for longer stays or during peak season)!

A wonderful place for you to set up shop and enjoy nature for the weekend. Or spend an extended. Stay relaxing within one of the few natural areas remaining in Denver.
