### Overview: Your Friendly Stop in Thayer County

The Chester City Park Campground operates under the municipality of Chester and is highly regarded by the traveling community for its straightforward, no-frills, and often free overnight camping policy. While it may not boast dozens of sites or luxury amenities, it excels in providing the basics that matter most to travelers: reliable hookups and a quiet, safe environment.

This facility is perfectly designed for short-term stays, typically limited to one night, though visitors are encouraged to confirm the current day limit with the city office. Its primary function is to serve as a convenient rest stop, offering a couple of dedicated spaces where you can easily park your RV, connect to power, and refresh before continuing your journey. For those passing through or needing a simple base to explore the immediate area of Thayer County, this spot offers exceptional value and convenience.

It’s a place where you'll find a small cluster of amenities tucked near a public pavilion, demonstrating the town’s commitment to welcoming travelers. Customer reviews frequently praise the cleanliness of the facilities and the overall peaceful atmosphere, a testament to the community's stewardship of the park.

### Location and Accessibility

Chester City Park Campground is strategically positioned in the town of Chester, making it highly accessible from major regional highways. Chester itself is situated near the junction of Nebraska Highway 8 and US Highway 81, placing the campground on a convenient route for those traveling north-south or east-west across the area. The location is just a short, easy drive from the main thoroughfares, minimizing the detour required to reach your overnight spot.

The park is located at:

930 Croop St, Chester, NE 68327, USA

Accessibility for RVs and trailers is a key highlight. Based on customer feedback, the camping area is noted for having level sites and easy pull-in access, which is a major benefit after a long day of driving. While the designated camping spots are limited—typically cited as only two trailer spaces—the in-town location ensures that services are never far away. The park is often described as being a quarter-mile west of the main junction of NE Hwy 8 and US Hwy 81, making navigation simple even for those arriving late in the evening. The clear identification of the designated camping area may require a quick survey of the park upon arrival, as noted in some user reviews, but the overall ease of reaching and setting up camp is consistently praised.

We had a little difficulty identifying the designated camping area. After we found it, the power and water were easily accessible. The site is level. The bathrooms are clean even though very basic. Nice, quiet area. We would stop here again if we pass this way.

little campsite near a pavilion with electricity and picnic tables. Flush toilets. a busy rest stop but we were the only campers. great free camp spot. (Aug 2011), the free overnight is still here (Jun 2019). Camping with power and water for one night. Toilets cinder block, flush. Lots of picnic tables. What more can you ask for.

Sorry for the low rating. But one of the power plugs did not work and the other one didn’t have enough power to even run my A/C. I turned everything else off. Maybe the issue was we where in the middle of a heat wave. Maybe next time it will be better. I will give it one more chance when we return

Ok for smaller RVs but nothing over 24 feet. Well shaded. Water and electric but no dump station.
