This park offers a wide range of activities and services such as; nicely maintained RV/camp grounds, cabin rentals, frisbee golf, various water activities, fishing, a playground, large open fields for games, a truly impressive amount of picnic areas and swings and not to forget several public bathrooms. Not much in terms of challenging hiking, but the main trail is pretty easy and not terribly long either. Keep in mind, it does tend to flood in certain areas after heavy rain falls and there is quite a few roots that act as tripping hazards. But it does led to a pretty cool surprise at the end. The road leading into the park could be better maintained but compared to everything else it offers, this State Park worth checking out.

I haven't been to a SC State park and have a bad time. Some might be overcrowded, but that's what they are for. Chester is a great example of a perfect little park. Rent a kayak, go for a short hike, or rent one of the beautiful little cabins. It's a great little relaxed park.

Chester State Park was an awesome trip today. Its serene environment and well-maintained facilities gave us a hands-on learning experience for the whole family including our pup. Here are some highlights: Educational Opportunities 1. Nature Study: ○ Explore the 1.3-mile nature trail, perfect for observing native plants and wildlife. The kids were able to identify local plants, trees, and animals. ○ The park's lake gave us an opportunity to learn about ecosystems and local aquatic life. 2. Geography and Map Skills: ○ I was able to use the park map to teach navigation skills. 3. Science: ○ Investigate the lake’s water quality or observe fish and bird species. Topics like ecosystems, food chains, and the water cycle can come alive here. The food chain for the fish didn't work for us today on the fishing bridge. ○ We were able to discuss environmental stewardship and the role of parks in preserving nature. We even cleaned up some trash that another family left behind. 4. History: ○ Chester State Park was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). I was able to use this to dive into discussions about the Great Depression and New Deal programs. 5. Physical Education: ○ Others were making use of the park's disc golf course and renting kayaks. Hiking around the lake can also be a great way to stay fit. But we chose to play on the playgrounds while playing tag for a while. Amenities • Campgrounds: Ideal for overnight stays • Picnic Areas: We used these to eat lunch and snacks throughout the day. • Fishing: not a bite today, but the last time we visited, we saw someone catch a huge crappie. The park’s tranquil setting, combined with a variety of hands-on activities, makes it a fantastic resource for homeschool families looking to blend education with outdoor adventures.

Tough course, a couple par 5. Challenging, watch your disc (easy to lose in the brush). Great views, perfect place to bring the family while you play. I suggest bug spray, plenty of bug bites. Public restrooms as well.

We reserved early & got site 12 with a view of Chester State Park Lake. Saturday we enjoyed Buttermilk's BBQ & Southern Cuisine brisket & wings. Nice trail to the spillway. Firewood $9.25 for a small bundle.
