The allure for Arizonans is multifaceted. The "great views of the night sky" are a significant draw, promising an unforgettable celestial display far from urban light pollution. For adventure seekers, the proximity to trails suitable for off-roading, leading to "nice view of the lake," offers exciting opportunities to explore the vast forest. Even with the occasional "washed out or overgrown" site, the overall experience of peace and quiet is paramount. The possibility of wildlife encounters, even with a "Mt. Lion," adds to the authentic wilderness feel that many Arizonans seek when heading to the mountains.
While the river might be dry "this time of year," the forest environment itself, with its tall pines, still provides a refreshing atmosphere, especially during the warmer months when lower elevations are scorching. Found a trail that we were able to take the RZR on that took us to a nice view of the lake.
Great campground with a clean vaulted toilet. Most of the camp sites are washed out or over grown from lack of use. Spent two nights in early September could of used more tall pines for shade but great views of the night sky. River was dry this time of year and we were visited by a Mt. Lion on our second night.
Way off the beaten path but well worth it, gorgeous views and very peaceful
The country side was beautiful but the mens bathroom was pretty nasty and a few of the sites with fire pits had garbage. People always find a way to ruin everything. Pack it in, pack it out. Leave no trace. Always, please?
Small camp area , no running water in the creek, & big wild cats in the area, mountain lions , bobcat , & maybe a bear wandering threw! A little traffic on the main road, quiet peaceful , be safe hiking
