Beauty all around. Just a wonderful place to see, explore, and enjoy. If all you have time for is to stop at the scenic views along the way up the mountain in your car it is well worth it. The recreation area around the lake is great for a picnic and a swim. The trail to Benton Falls was rewarding.

No camp store, no soap in restrooms, several dogs on the beach (and it is posted there are no dogs allowed), no available camp hosts, trash was noticed at the beach area and along trails (and yes, we picked it up). Listen, I adore doggies, but prefer not to dodge their poop on the beach. People seemed to disregard several camping etiquette rules. Oh, and the shower head blasts water for 5 seconds and turns off. Waterfall trail was the best part- totally worth the hike, but all in all, will not return.

The grounds are beautiful in the fall. There’s lots of space between each camper’s site and the restrooms are nearby with showers. Most of the sites have a picnic table and fire pits, which we used for food, heat, and s’mores. One person in our party had a dog and the dog seemed to enjoy its surroundings as well. Each space is rented for around 12-20 dollars and there’s enough space for 2-3 vehicles and 3-4 tents to fit comfortably and still have lots of space left. I’m already planning another trip back.

Our visit to the Chilhowee Recreation Area was a perfect Sunday getaway. It offered a blend of scenic drives, serene lakeside moments, and the breathtaking beauty of Benton Waterfall. It's a place where nature's wonders can be fully appreciated, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a peaceful escape in the great outdoors.

Pretty great views but don't let Google maps fool you. If you are not going on the paved Oswald road, you will have a tough time. There are 3 entrances to chilhowee and the paved one is the best one to do for leisure by far.

A beautiful section of the forest. Nicely maintained and not crowded. I highly recommend visiting and exploring the area.
