Great Creek. Lots of crawdads. Some camping spots are a bit close together, and on weekends the sound of the road can be annoying at night - but overall a great spots for kids and adults to hang out and cool down under the trees and play in the creek. Good access to the rim, lakes and fish hatchery nearby.

It would been a 5 star if only the toilets weren't possibly the worst ever. There was no staff onsite and every single toilet was super stinky and unhygienic with flies all around. These were pit toilets with no ventilation whatsoever. If only we had known or researched this beforehand, would probably have skipped the campground altogether. That being said, the campground itself is beautiful with tall palm trees all around. Every site comes with bear proof box, which we saw for the first time (and got a little scared too ). The sites were well spread out and still didn't feel too far away. There is a little creek which was fun. We had a blast overall, if only not for the restrooms.

Nice large camp sites that are clean and spread out. Creek with crawdads goes around it. Bathrooms are cleaned regularly. Vault toilets no sinks or other services. But there are water facets for drinking, dishes, etc. Heard elk not far away. Nice it’s far from the road so you can’t hear highway traffic except for loud semi trucks. Host was great! Super helpful!

The good: campsite was well maintained and spacious. Lots of trails and places to explore. Great overall family adventure. The bad: bathrooms were gross and didn't appear to have been serviced all weekend - they ran out of TP by Sunday morning. The smell was awful and in a downwind overcame the campsite. We never did see the host.

Christopher Creek Campground is just outside of Payson, Arizona and is located in the Tonto National Forest at the base of the Mogollan Rim. It's filled with the beauty of Ponderosa pine, Juniper, Manzanita, Oak, and Evergreen shrubs. The campground is all paved, has 43 sites (all sites are non-electric) and plenty of vault toilets. Each site has a picnic table, water spigot, fire ring, and metal bear box to store food. We stayed in Loop A at site #13 right along the creek. It was a great location because we could play cards at the table and still be able to watch the kids as they biked the loop and caught crawdads in the creek. One group site can hold up to 25 people and sits at a great spot just above the creek. I would love to come back for a big group camp of kids there. The creek gets stocked with Rainbow Trout but it's too shallow through the campground. We did hike along the creek and find some pools that came up to our waist. It was nice to lay on a float or just sit with feet in the water. It's just a short drive from camp into the tiny town of Christopher Creek where you can eat at The Creekside Tavern or Landmark at the Creek. For more recreation, take a drive to nearby Woods Canyon Lake. You can rent small boats, do some fishing or just enjoy sitting along the lake and visiting the marina. My favorite is to stop at the Mogollan Rim visitor center to learn about the area, animals, and National Parks. Con: ran out of toilet paper often

Lovely campground situated around Christopher Creek. Potable water, grills, fire pits, and pit toilets. Popular place with lots of kids and families around. Make sure you have headlamps for after dark and are physically prepared for the cold plunge temperatures that happen overnight.

It has amazing campsites! Easter weekend they were all first come first serve and they are all great sites. Of course, some are better than others. They have bear proof lock boxes at each campsite to secure wood and other items. They have fire pits and grills at each site as well. It did decide to snow Friday night so it got pretty cold but it made for a beautiful Easter weekend out of the Valley ❤️🏕️

Based on the reviews being positive...I was surprised to find a dirty and rustic site with one shared very dirty unisex bathroom for 6 campsites. It was disgusting. The other restroom didn't lock. Keep in mind it's about 16 people using one toilet. We picked up trash around the campsite for the next campers since it's not done by the hosts. The squirrels are cute, fun, and little scavengers.... so watch out! Other than that... the creek is cool, the trees are shadyand my family had a nice time and the other campers around were polite. We had site #13 and #14 and there were plenty of tent spots to choose from. Kids love playing in the creek catching the crayfish and minnows with their nets.

Good access to the creek. Spots had enough space for several families to share. Bathrooms were clean and had toilet paper. We barely saw any trash which was impressive right after memorial day weekend. Would have been nice if someone came by after 10 to remind our neighbors to be quiet.
