Beautiful mountain scenery. I entered from the Piedra Lisa South Trailhead to do some hiking. Very peaceful and relaxing but maybe not the safest or easiest trail. Be careful driving up, especially on the section of dirt road.
Cibola is thought to be a native name for the pueblos or tribal lands. The mountains views are great so it’s no surprise that natives made their mark here. Rich history and many points of interest. Close to Albuquerque.
This was a beautiful place. It had good signs so you knew where you were and where you need to go. It was clean and the locals were great. We had a great time!!
The pictures say it all!!! What a beautiful place!! So many trails to chose from and the outlook point at the top of the mountain is just Awesome! This was my first time going hiking in the Cibola National Forest and I loved it! The weather was cool. Be mindful of the wildlife in the area. Bring plenty of water with you. We actually took the Tree-Spring Trail #147. Within 2 hours I was ready to turn back down but glad I didn't. The view is so awesome at the top. And the small town is just lovely. We actually stop at the local Mexican Restaurant called " El Mariachi Authentic Mexican Food" in Cedar Crest, NM. The food was Great!! You have to make a stop there for Lunch .... especially after a long hike.
We absolutely love camping in the wilderness area near fourth of July campground. We have found a great spot to truly get away. No cell service, no people, lots of space for our dogs to roam off leash. We love it and have been going there for years. The road up can be a bit rough so we can't take our small camper, but tent camps are numerous and secluded. To get to a lot of them, like the one we found, you'll need 4 wheel assist and our 4 runner makes the trek possible. Definitely a great getaway if you truly want to disconnect, literally.
