Circle R Campground Introduce
Circle R Campground, located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is a well-established and family-owned destination within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, tracing its roots back to 1967 when it was converted from a dairy farm into a campground. Spanning approximately 13 to 30 acres, depending on the current operational size, Circle R Campground offers a versatile and welcoming environment for a wide range of campers, from those seeking full hookup RV sites to traditional tent campers. It has built a reputation as a friendly, accommodating, and active campground, particularly noted for its ability to host large clubs and special events, including the annual EAA AirVenture convention.
The environment of Circle R Campground offers a blend of open spaces and shaded areas, providing diverse settings for campers. The front portion of the campground features large, level, grassy sites with numerous mature trees, offering ample shade and a classic campground aesthetic. This area is particularly well-suited for RVs and trailers, with many sites designed for easy access. Behind this initial section, there is often a large, open, grassy area that serves as additional parking or overflow camping, especially during peak events like EAA AirVenture. Further towards the rear of the property, some areas transition into more primitive, shady, and wooded sites, appealing to those who prefer a quieter and more natural camping experience away from the busier front sections. The overall topography is generally flat, typical of the Wisconsin landscape, making it easy to set up camp. While not directly on a major lake, its proximity to Lake Winnebago and the Fox River system means that guests have access to nearby water-based recreation. The atmosphere is generally lively, especially during event weeks, fostering a sense of community among fellow campers. The land has been thoughtfully developed to provide a balance of open recreation spaces and more secluded camping spots, catering to various preferences.
As a comprehensive provider within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, Circle R Campground offers an extensive array of services and goods to ensure a comfortable and convenient stay. For RVers, the campground provides a variety of hook-up options, including numerous full hook-up sites with 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer connections. Additionally, many sites offer electric and water hook-ups, and there are also electric-only sites, particularly in the more primitive, wooded areas. Over 100 self-contained sites can also be accommodated. Each site generally includes a picnic table and a fire ring for traditional outdoor cooking and gatherings. Communal services are well-maintained and include clean restrooms with flush toilets and free hot showers, a welcome amenity for all campers. Laundry facilities are available on-site, providing added convenience for longer stays. A dedicated dump station is also provided for RV waste disposal. For basic necessities, the campground operates a general store or kiosk where campers can purchase essential items like ice, firewood, and propane (often by weight). A unique feature is the on-site full bar, which also serves pizza, offering a social hub and a convenient dining option without leaving the campground. Wireless internet access is available throughout the campground, ensuring guests can stay connected if desired.
Circle R Campground's features extend beyond basic amenities, providing various recreational opportunities that enhance the camping experience for all ages. A large recreation room, often referred to as an "Event Room," is a significant feature, capable of accommodating large groups for meetings, get-togethers, or special events at no extra cost, making it ideal for club rallies or family reunions. For children, a new children's playground has been installed, along with a popular bouncy pillow, providing engaging and active play areas. Furthermore, the campground has plans to add a swimming pond, potentially featuring inflatables, which would significantly enhance its water-based recreational offerings. The campground is also known for being very pet-friendly, allowing guests to bring their beloved animals, though specific rules for leashing and waste disposal apply to ensure the comfort and safety of all guests. Its strategic location near major Oshkosh attractions is a key feature; it's conveniently close to the EAA Aviation Museum and serves as a prime camping spot during the annual EAA AirVenture convention, as well as other large events like Country USA music festival and Rock USA. The presence of both open and shaded sites allows campers to choose the environment that best suits their preferences. The campground also promotes itself as a great base for exploring the surrounding area, including Lake Winnebago and various local trails for hiking or biking, though direct access might vary. The family-owned nature of the campground, operating since 1967, is also a significant feature, suggesting a long-standing commitment to guest satisfaction and a welcoming atmosphere.
In terms of promotional information, Circle R Campground actively markets its family-friendly environment and its comprehensive range of services. They highlight their ability to accommodate large clubs and special events, leveraging their spacious grounds and event room. For major annual events like EAA AirVenture, they are a highly sought-after alternative or supplement to official camping, and it's explicitly stated that a 2-night minimum stay is required for EAA. Promotional materials emphasize the availability of various site types, from self-contained spots to full hook-up sites, catering to both RV and tent campers. The campground's seasonal operating hours, typically from May 1 through October 15, are clearly communicated, allowing for accurate trip planning. They offer flexible booking options including daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal rates, with weekly, monthly, and seasonal rates available upon request. Reservations require a deposit, and credit cards are accepted. The recent addition of a new playground and bouncy pillow, along with the planned swimming pond, are actively promoted as enhancements to the family recreation offerings. The on-site bar and wireless internet access are also key promotional points, appealing to campers seeking a blend of outdoor adventure and modern comforts. Prospective campers are encouraged to contact the campground directly by phone or email for reservations and inquiries, ensuring direct communication regarding availability and specific needs. The campground's long history under family ownership is often a subtle but effective promotional element, conveying a sense of tradition and dedicated service. They actively engage with the local tourism boards, such as Visit Oshkosh and Travel Wisconsin, to extend their reach and provide information about their facilities and proximity to local attractions, inviting both local users and travelers from further afield to experience their hospitality.

Customer Reviews
In area for 2024 EAA Airventure Fly-in. Pretty good location for air show. Shuttle to air show grounds a plus. Nice little bar on-site with very friendly people. Nice green grass throughout. Trees in older areas but not in newer areas. On the downside, the facilities definitely need repair and upgrading as does the grounds. Lots of depressions and pot holes that could use some filling. Bathrooms and showers are in really bad condition - should be torn down (before they fall down) and rebuilt. Not sure about the water either as we had some seepage on our hookup and it left significant rust colored deposits on our filter and connections - rusty pipes or high iron content water? We threw our relatively new filter away. The place generally just needs some serious TLC.
We stayed for a long weekend in August. The grounds are well maintained and beautifully grassy, which is great for kids to run and play around in. There is a great “old school” playground for the kids, ours loved it! We did not use any of the showers or restrooms, so I can not comment on those, but it seems like the new owners are really working on improvements that were complaints in the past. The campground is easy to maneuver around in even with our 38’ motor home pulling a 26’ trailer! Camp spots were decently level and very spacious! You do not feel packed in at all. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere and we would definitely book there again! My only constructive criticism would be just to update the website to provide a bit more information and photos of the campground. Thanks for letting us stay there!
We were there for a week during the July 2024 Air Venture. The new owner was very nice and helpful. He took a personal interest in the visitors and talked about the improvements he plans to make. The power is perfect, all brand new dual 30 and 50 amp connections and very well done. Only a few spaces have sewer hookup but there is a nice central dump station with rinse. The water pressure is good but has extremely high iron content. The showers were actually clean but the iron content turned the white shower stall floors rusty red which made them appear dirty. If you shower with flip flops, they will be rust stained with one shower. If that were addressed, I’d give it 5 stars. Aside that, all the workers were very nice and the facility is well cared for. We really enjoyed our stay.
We stayed this past weekend for my grandsons birthday. Everyone had a great time. The rec room we had his birthday party in was great. The kids played on the playground from the time they got up till little after dark . The staff are all very friendly and nice. We will definitely be going back
Update: The hot water system has been revamped, showers and bathrooms work with on demand hot water! There is also a washer and dryer. The new owner has lots of expansion plans, including replacing the bath and laundry rooms with completely new ones in the next few years, as well as putting in a swimming pond. Original: the only reason I rated the "rooms" lower is because the new owner has yet to update the bathrooms and laundry. The park is beautiful. Green grass, shade trees, country bar, playground. The new owner is upgrading continuously. The staff are great. Love the place so far. We booked for the season.
