Clear Lake South Campground Introduce
Clear Lake South Campground, nestled within the expansive Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest near Naches, Washington, offers a tranquil and accessible camping experience within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category. Situated strategically just below the Clear Lake Dam, this campground provides a scenic backdrop for various outdoor activities, making it a popular choice for those seeking a refreshing escape to nature without venturing into deep wilderness.
The environment of Clear Lake South Campground is primarily defined by its proximity to Clear Lake, a beautiful body of water known for its clarity. While Clear Lake is a reservoir managed for agricultural irrigation, its waters nonetheless offer appealing opportunities for recreation. The campground itself is often shaded by mature trees, contributing to a pleasant and cool atmosphere, particularly during the warmer summer months. The surrounding Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest presents a diverse landscape, ranging from high, glaciated alpine peaks to valleys of old-growth forest. The elevation of the campground contributes to distinct seasonal changes, with warm summers and typically snowy winters. The natural setting allows for glimpses of local flora and fauna, enhancing the outdoor experience. The atmosphere at Clear Lake South Campground is generally described as quiet and peaceful, especially when compared to more bustling recreational areas. The presence of the dam adds an interesting man-made element to the natural setting, and its function can lead to fluctuating lake levels, which visitors should be aware of, particularly in late summer or fall when the lake may become shallower. Despite this, the overall environment remains conducive to relaxation and outdoor enjoyment.
As a service provider within the Campgrounds & RV Parks platform, Clear Lake South Campground offers essential services to facilitate a comfortable camping experience. The campground primarily operates on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning reservations are typically not available. This necessitates early arrival, especially during popular summer and fall months, to secure a spot. The campground is managed by White Pass Ski Resort, which often oversees its operation. A key service offered at Clear Lake South is the provision of potable drinking water, a significant convenience not always found in more primitive campgrounds. This eliminates the need for campers to carry in all their water or rely solely on filtration. While no showers are available, vault toilets are provided, offering basic sanitation facilities. The fee for a single campsite is generally around $20 per night, with an additional $10 charged for each extra vehicle, up to a maximum of two vehicles per site. Interagency Senior/Access or Golden Age/Access Passes are typically accepted for discounts. Visitors can inquire about current conditions and any fire restrictions through the Naches Ranger District office of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
Clear Lake South Campground features a number of amenities that cater to both RV and tent campers. It offers 29 single sites and 2 double sites, accommodating various group sizes. While it is suitable for RVs, there are size restrictions, with a maximum RV length of 22 feet. Importantly, Clear Lake South Campground does not offer hookups for RVs (electricity, water, or sewer), nor does it have a dump station on-site, requiring RV campers to arrive with full tanks and plan for off-site waste disposal. Each campsite is typically equipped with a picnic table, providing a designated area for meals and gatherings. Fire rings are also usually available, though it's critical to note that campfires may be prohibited during certain periods due to fire danger, and visitors should always check for current fire restrictions.
Beyond the immediate campsites, Clear Lake South Campground offers excellent opportunities for various recreational features. The proximity to Clear Lake allows for non-motorized boating, such as kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Fishing is also a popular activity on the lake, with opportunities to catch various fish species. For those who enjoy terrestrial activities, the surrounding area provides options for day hiking and mountain biking on nearby trails. The campground's location below the dam means it's situated between Clear Lake and the larger Rimrock Lake, offering additional recreational possibilities. Other notable features in the wider region include the White Pass Ski Area, making the campground a potential base for off-season exploration or for those seeking a more serene experience near the resort. Other points of interest accessible from the area include Tieton Dam, Tieton River for whitewater rafting (especially during the September water release), and various wildlife viewing opportunities, such as the Oak Creek Wildlife Area Elk Feeding Station during winter. The overall network of recreation opportunities within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest significantly enhances the appeal of Clear Lake South Campground.
In terms of promotional information, Clear Lake South Campground primarily relies on its listing on official government recreation websites, such as the USDA Forest Service and platforms like Hipcamp. These sources serve as the main channels for conveying information about the campground's features, services, and any relevant fees. While specific seasonal "sales" or "discounts" are not typically advertised for this type of national forest campground, the acceptance of Interagency Senior/Access or Golden Age/Access Passes provides a direct discount mechanism for eligible visitors. The "first-come, first-served" policy during its operational season (generally summer and fall, but subject to closures) implicitly encourages early arrival as a way to secure a spot. Reviews from past campers often highlight the campground's positive attributes, such as its clean environment, available potable water, and peaceful atmosphere, which act as a form of organic promotion. Any alerts or warnings, such as the mentioned campground closure due to the Bureau of Reclamation's Clear Creek Dam Fish Passage Project (as noted in early 2025), are important pieces of information that effectively manage visitor expectations and ensure safety, acting as a crucial element of the campground's communication strategy. Visitors are always advised to consult the official Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest website or contact the Naches Ranger District directly for the most current information regarding operational status, accessibility, fire restrictions, and any changes to amenities or fees before planning their visit.

Customer Reviews
Rustic camping. One water spigot is available to share between all sites. Two bathrooms are available to share between all sites. Pricing is tricky, 10$ per camping spot per night. And an ADDITIONAL 10$ per car per night. It was a beautiful spot, and I'd love to come back, but the fishing was absolutely dead. We had the lake almost to ourselves and fished nearly the entire south side for more than 6 hours on kayaks with no bites.
What a beautiful area to visit and camp between two lakes. Finding the road into this area happened by mistake but now I know the secret...LOL! There is a nice hike by the bridge up to Clear Lake.
We LOVE this place! We come up once a year for group camping and build such great memories here! The restrooms are clean, the sites spacious and well-kept, camp host is friendly and informative and the scenery/atmosphere cannot be beat!
What a beautiful area. Wish peoole knew how to use the woods to go to the bathroom.
I love clear lake. Stayed the weekend and had a lot of fun. It was pretty rainy but we had fun anyway! Beautiful place to stay.
