This is a well-maintained primitive campground with large/flat tent pads and nestled in between Chestnut Creek and the New River Trail. Note that the parking lot is several hundred feet away so you'll have to carry in whatever gear/supplies that you bring, because there is no vehicle access. Although other reviews mentioned noise coming from the parking lot, at least where I was (in site 4), I never heard that. The only thing I could hear was the creek and birds. We slept well. Each site has a firepit, picnic table, wooden 6x6 hammock posts, and a metal trash/gear hanger. The firepits have cooking grates and firewood is available to buy from a park ranger. A bear-proof trash can is centrally located. The pit toilet and water spigot are located at the edge of the campground, closer to the parking lot. The location is great for a bike trip - there are shuttle services in the area that can take you to Pulaski and you can bike the ~50 mile trail back to the campground. It's also an easy/quick ~4 mile ride into downtown Galax. Although the trail itself doesn't go all the way to downtown, there is a wide sidewalk along US 58 where the trail ends, and then a crosswalk signal to help you cross over to Main St.
This campground has a nice setting. The creek and proximity to the trail is nice. Only downside was late night activity in the parking lot that kept me up.
Nice little spot to camp and bike or hike around the trail. With access to the stream behind that also provides a relaxing sound.
Nice place, all camping areas are nice and clean, restrooms aren't the cleanest but better than the woods. Staff could be a little more helpful.
Great spot to camp. It's a little bit of a walk from the parking lot to the camp sites. Really quiet.
Beautiful campground! Would definitely stay here again.
