This article is designed to provide local users with a clear, engaging, and informative overview of what makes Clint Converse State Forest Campground a suitable and appealing choice for their next outdoor adventure, highlighting its serene atmosphere, natural beauty, and the simple joys it offers.
Clint Converse State Forest Campground stands as a testament to Minnesota's commitment to preserving its natural landscapes for public enjoyment. It's a place where the towering red and white pines create a majestic canopy, and the sounds of the forest prevail over urban noise. While it embraces a more primitive style of camping, with no electric hookups and only vault toilets, this is precisely its charm for many seasoned campers and those looking to truly unplug. The feedback from visitors often highlights its quiet nature, particularly during the week, making it an ideal retreat for solitude seekers.
For local Minnesota residents, finding a campground that offers "nice flat spots" among "massive red and white pines" is a significant draw. It provides a quintessential northern Minnesota experience – fishing from the bank of a lake, enjoying a campfire under the stars (even with a high-walled fire ring), and the general tranquility of a state forest. While some reviews mention the lack of a dumpster and resulting trash issues, this can often be mitigated by responsible campers who practice Leave No Trace principles. The minor inconvenience of road noise during the day is often outweighed by the peaceful nights and the overall natural beauty. This campground caters to Minnesotans who appreciate simplicity, natural beauty, and a quiet base for outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, and ATV riding. It's a place where the beauty of the landscape takes center stage, inviting visitors to slow down and truly savor the outdoors.
Clint Converse State Forest Campground is located at 5861 Lake Washburn Rd NE, Outing, MN 56662, USA. This address places it squarely within the Land O'Lakes State Forest, a vast expanse of natural beauty in northeastern Cass County, approximately 140 miles west of Duluth and 180 miles north of Minneapolis–St. Paul. Its position near Washburn Lake is a significant advantage, providing campers with direct access to the lake's recreational opportunities.
For Minnesotans, accessing Clint Converse State Forest Campground is generally straightforward. Outing, the nearby town, is a familiar landmark for many who frequent the state's lake country. The accessibility is well-suited for various vehicle types, including tents, trailers, and RVs, although it's important to note the lack of electric hookups for RVs. The roads leading to the campground are typically gravel but are generally well-maintained. No dumpster, so bags of trash can be found in pit toilets and woods behind campsites. Very disappointing. Otherwise, it is quiet during the week with nice flat spots and massive red and white pines. Caught pike, bluegill and largemouth bass from the bank despite being shallow. Can hear cars on the road but hardly any traffic at night during the week. Fire rings have high walls so hard to see the fire unless you're above it
Rustic campground with only satellite toilets and a hand pump for water, no electric hook ups. There is a dock on the lower part of the park for fishing and a boat launch. The upper part of the park has some great level campsites. It's close to a county road or highway that gets a decent amount of traffic so you will hear cars going by a lot but we love it here.
Quiet. Swimming area is great. One can wade out 25 yards while casting. Lots of clean restrooms. Close to Remer and Outing. Trails.
It's very rustic, but this is a nice peaceful campground with a boat launch on Lake Washburn. It has picnic areas and vault toilets. Camping area is quite roomy and has unique upper and lower camping areas. There's a self-service payment drop box. Hiking/skiing trails are nearby.
This place was ok. Not too isolated from others since other campers are maybe 200-400 feet away. The lake is shallow unless you go to certain places, and boat launch isnt that great either. But an ok place if you want to get out somewhere with your family or yourself and connect with nature.
