Cloud Cap Saddle Campground Introduce

Cloud Cap Saddle Campground, categorized under Campgrounds & RV Parks, provides a rustic camping experience on Mt. Hood, Oregon. Located at Cloud Cap Rd, Mt Hood, OR 97041, USA, it serves as a convenient access point for mountaineering and hiking activities.

This campground is considered a "dry" campground, meaning it does not have running water. However, a nearby water source is available. It features a pit toilet, and visitors are reminded to maintain cleanliness and avoid squatting on the toilet seat. The campground is known for its clean environment, and users are encouraged to practice Leave-No-Trace principles.

While the campsites themselves do not offer direct views, the campground provides easy access to Cloud Cap and the Timberline Trail, offering spectacular views with a short walk. Visitors are highly encouraged to explore Cloud Cap, a historically significant site located nearby.

The primary drawback of the campground is the pit toilet. Although it is noted to be clean and relatively odor-free on the inside, the exterior emits a strong odor that can be carried by the wind. This is a significant consideration for campers sensitive to smells.

Customer reviews highlight the campground's excellent trail access and the respectful behavior of its users. The historical significance of Cloud Cap and the overall cleanliness of the campground are also praised. However, the pit toilet's odor is a notable concern.

For inquiries, you can contact Cloud Cap Saddle Campground at (541) 352-6002 or +1 541-352-6002.

Cloud Cap Saddle Campground offers a convenient and rustic base for exploring the trails and historical sites of Mt. Hood, particularly for mountaineering enthusiasts. Campers should be prepared for the lack of running water and the potential odor from the pit toilet.

This is a great "dry" campground with a nearby water source and pit toilet (please do not squat on the toilet seat to pee!). Great trail access for mountaineering and views. The campground is clean and the people that use it seem to care about the area. If you use it, Remember to Leave-No-Trace.

Handful of sites right off the timberline. No views from any site but you can walk up to Cloud Cap or not too far either direction on the timberline for those. Speaking of Cloud Cap, be sure to make your way up there before leaving. Amazing piece of history saved right there. The only real downside imo is the pit toilet. It's actually super clean and smells ok (not like a pit toilet) on the inside, smells terrible outside. The wind blows all directions too so you're going to smell it, a lot. It's really the only reason it didn't get 5 stars. I love rural spots that make trail access better... But not at the expense of the pit toilet smell :(

Beautiful campground, there is running water here, but I didnt see where at. There is a vaulted pit bathroom here. There is also the cloud cap in and snowshoe inn that have historical guided tours upon request. Cool buildings to check out from the outside. Big parking area in front of the snowshoe inn. I think it was 21/night to camp here with no day use after 2 or 3pm. You must have a northwest Forrest pass or pay to park here for day use. The road to cloud cap is also a little more rough, there is a small one laned section with cliff on one side and dangerous rock slide area on the other. The tilly jane camground road is much more nice and you can get to cloud cap from tilly jane campground.

Eight miles of unpaved road to campground. This a a roughly mid-way in Timberline Trail in north when start from Timberline Lodge after Gnarl's Ridge. Recently water line is fixed and functional. So water is available there! This is a very important water re-fill area since water is nearly non-existent at least 5 miles from either directions of Timberline during late summer season. Parking lot can be crowded but an overflow parking can be found by driving up another 250 yards near the S&R house.

They have running water bathroom no shower plenty of camping sites parking up and down the road. Parking is a little chaotic some people take up two or three parking space by parking sideways. The roads are really rough driving up there plenty of GrooVe ruts and potholes there's even a lot of washboarding going on on the street.
