Clyde Campground Introduce

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Manitou Springs, Colorado, Clyde Campground offers a unique and rustic camping experience for outdoor enthusiasts. Located approximately 90 minutes from Colorado Springs, this hidden gem is accessible via a scenic drive that includes a stretch of washboard dirt roads, adding to its off-the-beaten-path charm.

The campground features undeveloped sites that are free to use, making it an ideal destination for budget-conscious travelers. Each site is equipped with a fire ring, providing the perfect setting for evening campfires under the stars. The area is spacious enough to accommodate several tents, making it suitable for group camping. The serene environment ensures minimal traffic and a quiet atmosphere, perfect for those seeking a peaceful retreat.

Visitors to Clyde Campground can enjoy breathtaking views of the mountainside, especially during the early morning hours when the sunlight gradually illuminates the landscape. The nearby creek adds to the natural beauty, offering a refreshing spot for kids to play and explore. However, campers should be prepared for the hard ground, which can make digging latrines a challenge. A sturdy shovel is recommended for this purpose.

While the campground offers a tranquil escape, it’s important to note that there are no additional facilities on-site. Campers should come fully prepared with all necessary supplies. Additionally, the area is known for biting flies, so insect repellent is essential. The lack of reliable cell service, particularly with Verizon and T-Mobile, ensures a true disconnect from the digital world, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in nature.

For those planning a visit, it’s advisable to avoid hunting season weekends to secure a site more easily and ensure a safer environment for children. Despite these minor inconveniences, Clyde Campground remains a beloved destination for those seeking an authentic and memorable camping experience.

  • Undeveloped, free campsites with fire rings
  • Spacious and flat areas suitable for group camping
  • Stunning mountain views and a nearby creek
  • Quiet and peaceful environment with minimal traffic
  • No cell service, perfect for a digital detox

Located 90 min from Colorado Springs. About 30 min of that is washboard dirt roads, some only 1 lane. Turn off is right after a 1-lane tunnel. Sites are undeveloped (free), but do have enough flat space for several tents at some, sufficient for our group of 13 between 2 neighboring sites. Fire rings at each site. No other facilities. Minimal traffic and very quiet (until another group came by to do some target shooting practice, but that stopped at dark.) October camping is very cool at night (frost on tents every morning), but days are so pleasant. View of mountainside each morning as the sunlight creeps down is spectacular. One site had an entrance impassible with anything but a large vehicle, but most sites were ok for a low-riding minivan. Ground is very hard, so difficult to dig latrine for waste. Being a big shovel. Creek running near site... very cool this time of year. Kids loved playing there. Lots of biting flies. Ouch. No mosquitoes in October. But spray helped a bit. Find out when it is hunting season if you don't hunt, and don't camp those weekends... easier to get sites and safer for kids. No Verizon service. 1 bar with T-mobile rarely, though at those times only incoming texts, but usually cannot sent outgoing.

Nice area to camp. Super open place with plenty of parking. Plenty a awesome views with even more places to explore with a bunch of jeep trails near by. ZERO signal so make sure you do your research on trails beforehand. Be mindful of the weather. We did not expect a high amount of wind, and it damaged our camper. It's a easy fix, but it was not fun to tear down at 4am. There is a camp site just down the hill that will keep you out of the wind. You could easily park a giant camper here. I would come from the cripple creek side of old stage though if you do. From the springs, it can be a rough ride.
