Colonial Creek South Campground Introduce

For local users seeking a scenic camping experience within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, Colonial Creek South Campground, located on State Rte 20, Rockport, WA 98283, USA (phone: (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777), provides a lovely setting for enjoying nature and outdoor activities.

The campground is described as "pretty nice" for those interested in water activities on the lake. Its location also offers convenient access to nearby hiking trails, with the popular Diablo Lake trailhead just a 10-minute drive away, providing excellent views of the lake and dam.

Colonial Creek South Campground features "plenty of spots," but it's important for visitors to be aware that the campsite sizes can vary significantly. Some sites are only suitable for a single small tent, while others can accommodate both a large and a small tent. Despite the size variations, all campsites are equipped with a dining table and a fire pit, although it's noted that fires are currently not allowed.

A significant highlight of this campground is its "top notch" restroom facilities. Unlike more rustic campgrounds, Colonial Creek South offers restrooms with running water and flushing toilets, which many campers find to be a welcome convenience.

Visitors have shared positive experiences with the campground staff, mentioning rangers Wendy and Christine, as well as other personnel, as "awesome" and helpful, particularly for those relying on cancellations to secure a site. Interestingly, one reviewer noted that there were "no fees if you grab a cancelled site for the night," which could be a helpful tip for spontaneous campers.

An important consideration for visitors to Colonial Creek South Campground is the presence of bears. Campers are strongly advised to keep their food locked up securely, either in their vehicles or in the storage provided at each site. This precaution is necessary due to bear activity in the area, and unfortunately, there was a recent incident where a bear had to be put down, underscoring the importance of following food storage guidelines.

Overall, Colonial Creek South Campground offers local users a great location for relaxation and nature enjoyment, with access to lake activities and hiking. The availability of excellent restroom facilities is a significant plus. However, potential campers should be mindful of the varying campsite sizes and the need for strict adherence to bear safety protocols.

Pretty nice campground to enjoy water activities on the lake, as well as some nearby hiking. The Diablo Lake trailhead is only 10 minutes driving and has good views of the lake and the dam. The campground has plenty of spots, but they vary significantly on size, some can only accommodate one small tent, while others have room for both a large tent and a small one. All spots have a dining table and fire pit, though fires are no longer allowed. The restroom is top notch, has running water and flushing toilets, magical! All in all, a great campground to relax and enjoy nature.

This campsite is amazing! We had no reservations and were relying on cancellations. We were blessed that weekend. Moved 3 times to different campsites that became available for that day. Rangers Wendy and Christine were awesome as well as the gentleman that opened up the camp for the day. No fees if you grab a cancelled site for the night. Please keep your food locked up either in your car or in storage that is provided at each site. Bears do come by and they recently had to put one down:/

Beautiful camp ground with a gorgeous lake. This place is by far one of my favorite places. The sites are all sorts of sizes so please check in advance with recreation.gov to make sure your site will be what you need. The trails here are very well maintained and so is the beach. The water is very cold, gets deep quickly and has some very strong currents so please wear a life jacket at all times. Kayak and sup users be aware of the wind it picks up quick and tends to blow hard.

We camp here every year and there is always a lot of activity for the whole family. Kids love to swim in Diablo Lake, I usually hike along the river. If we get bored we drive several miles towards the dam and hike together . My recommendation is to book a spot early in the year. This is a very popular campground and I’ve seen people not being able finding a spot without reservation.
