Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ I recently visited Comal Park 08/31/24, and the experience was very disappointing. We were looking forward to enjoying the swimming area, but Unfortunately, the water was murky, and as we tried to walk in, we found ourselves sinking in the mud. It felt unsafe and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, we had to walk a long way to reach an area that was actually safe to swim in. This was particularly frustrating because we were never informed about the poor conditions of the water before our visit. The only area you can enjoy is the kid park and sitting picnic area just to enjoy the distant views. They gave us a red bag before entering to pick up trash and that is basically all we payed for .We entered walked for twenty minutes and then U-turned after sitting for a bit and left.Overall, it was a waste of time & Money, and I would not recommend this park until they address these issues and provide clear communication to visitors.
BRING SWIM SHOES if you plan to get in the lake. The ground is a thick muddy consistency and infested with tiny sharp open clam shells that WILL cut your feet. The drought has lowered the water level but it was still beautiful out there.
We visited Comal Park, Canyon Lake 6/13/2024, paid $20 a car load. We were not informed about how low the water actually was, and we were completely shocked! We drove to side where signs said “swim beach”, but went to the left side where the little island is, but as we got closer, we didn’t see any water! Then turns out the water dropped like 20 feet, we had to climb DOWN the cliff/ rock wall to actually get in the lake. It was pretty scary and dangerous to climb down… but we wanted to make the best of our visit. My husband had to climb down first and placed rocks to create steps for me and my kids to climb down. As we finally got down, the water was so nice, clear and good temperature. It was still deep water, but not what we were used to. Just about three years ago, the water was above the rocks, and we were able to sit down on rocks and it was so nice and enjoyable. Now, it’s slippery and dangerous trying to climb DOWN the cliff rocks just to get in the water. Then at 6:00 the park rangers are driving around shouting “time to go, parks closing” but signs says closer is 7:30. The restrooms are disgusting. I will probably not go back. In the pictures, you’ll see all the rock along the wall, the water used to be above that!
LOVEEE THIS LAKE! It’s absolutely beautiful wish it was open year round! Parking is $20 but for local $5. Please be very considerate and clean after yourself to keep the place looking as beautiful as it is!
Amazing park! Definitely worth the drive. Costs $20 to get in. The park attendant was friendly. I wish it had better bathrooms. Love the crystal blue water lake.
Based on the most recent reviews we were skeptical. I’m glad we took a chance anyway! Our group had an amazing time! We weren’t fans of the beach side but went by the cliffs. I’m afraid of heights but there were spots to climb down or you can jump off the cliff. There were areas to sit along the bottom and in the water. Plenty of grills and places to sit, kayak rental, jet ski rental and free life jackets all around! Definitely recommend!
