Comanche Lake Introduce

Introduction / Overview: Comanche Lake—A Clean and Quiet Oklahoma Escape

For Oklahoma residents in the Southwest region, Comanche Lake stands out as a beloved local secret, offering a peaceful and accessible outdoor retreat just minutes from Duncan. As one of the four man-made lakes owned and operated by the City of Duncan, Comanche Lake was originally built as a vital reservoir but has since become a year-round destination for fishing, camping, and low-key recreation. The commitment of the city management to continuously improve this area is a point of pride for visitors, who frequently notice and appreciate the upgrades being implemented.

The recreation area centers around the approximately 160-acre lake, providing a serene environment for both day-use and extended stays. It is particularly noted for its clean atmosphere, making it a reliable choice for local families and traveling RVers seeking a tidy, functional, and well-maintained campground. Recent improvements have included new restrooms, showers, and a modern dump station, directly addressing visitor needs and solidifying the campground’s reputation as a clean and pleasant spot. Unlike large, crowded state parks, Comanche Lake maintains a friendly, community feel where the staff and fellow campers are often described as kind and helpful. It’s the perfect place to slow down, enjoy some quality fishing, and connect with the natural beauty of Stephens County.

Location and Accessibility

Comanche Lake Campground is conveniently situated in Stephens County, Oklahoma, making it easily accessible from the town of Duncan and the wider Southwest Oklahoma region.

The official address is listed as D2861 Rd, Duncan, OK 73533, USA. While it shares its name with the nearby town of Comanche, it is managed as part of the Duncan Area Lakes system and is located slightly southeast of the city of Duncan. Access is typically via well-maintained county roads off one of the main highways in the area. The ease of navigation and the relatively short drive from Duncan make it an ideal weekend getaway location that doesn't require excessive travel time.

Accessibility within the campground itself is also excellent. The lake features two boat ramps for easy water access, two fishing docks, and designated camping areas suitable for both recreational vehicles and tent camping. While camping is generally on a first-come, first-served basis, the purchase of a camping permit is required. Visitors can obtain necessary permits at Duncan City Hall, the Bray Store in Marlow, or via the convenient kiosks located at each of the four Duncan-area lakes (debit or credit card only). The maximum stay limit is 21 days on a single camping site, ensuring regular turnover and availability for others in the community.

In order to get senior discount you have to have a Corp of engineers card. Looks to be $80.00 a year. And it's not a corps lake. I don't get it.
