Made it up here on 8/20/18 my first mt shelter trek ever and it was awesome, can't wait to get back out here on a clear smokeless day to hike to the shelter and beyond. I came up via cooper spur/tilly jane from the campground and it was all up hill with loose sand and rock. The whole way. Plenty of places to sit on rocks and enjoy the views. Nice sound structure for camping in storms or the winter. You can also get to the tilly jane/A-frame and cloud cap campground/inn from here.
We hiked up to the base of the summit last year, but didn't get to camp it. This year, we finally got to backpack and camp the base of the summit! What a sunrise! 😍 🌅 It was worth the 3 hours up and 2 hours down. Feels like we got a full body workout too😁😅
Cool little rock shelter. Very beautiful area to hike around. You can make a loop or go up to the top of Cooper spur. Several camp sites near the shelter or you could sleep in the shelter.
This experience was amazing! It was a beautiful day and a very cool thing to see this little shelter for those who may need.
Amazing hike. Views of Helens. Rainier. Adams. Jefferson and Three Sisters on a clear day from the top. Left at 8am. Returned just after 1. Took my time taking pictures along the way. Ran down ;)
