Copperfield Campground

49815 Lakeshore Rd, Oxbow, OR 97840, USA

Introduce

For local families and outdoor enthusiasts in the Oxbow, Oregon area, Copperfield Campground, located at 49815 Lakeshore Rd, Oxbow, OR 97840, offers a highly recommended experience within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category. With a long-standing reputation as a "family favorite for over 25 years," this campground provides a welcoming environment for a relaxing getaway.

The campground boasts beautiful spots with green grass and well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms that are currently open (though showers were noted as not open at the time of the review). A significant feature is that all camping spots are paved, offering a level surface for both tents and RVs. Its location directly on the Snake River provides easy access for swimming in a nice play area and opportunities for boating and fishing before the Hells Canyon Dam.

Recreational amenities at Copperfield Campground include a horseshoe playing area, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere. The campground's proximity to the Snake River also makes it a convenient starting point for many raft tours that begin downstream after the Hells Canyon Dam.

However, potential visitors should be aware of a couple of important caveats. Firstly, cell phone service and WiFi are reported to be unreliable in the area. This makes it unsuitable for those needing to work remotely or attend remote schooling. Secondly, the campground is situated in a remote location with no stores or gas stations nearby for many miles. It is crucial to arrive with a full tank of gas and all necessary food and supplies. The towns of Halfway (approximately 20 miles to the west) and Cambridge (approximately 20 miles to the south) are the nearest places to stock up. There are no north or east roads leading to this specific area.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the reviews. However, the consistent positive feedback regarding the well-kept grounds, clean facilities, river access, and family-friendly environment makes Copperfield Campground a compelling option for local users seeking a riverside camping experience near Hells Canyon, provided they come prepared for the remote location and limited connectivity.

Super well-kept campground, all paved spots, no gravel -- right on the Snake River. We liked it a lot, except for one evening out of three we stayed, the bugs were pretty bad. But it was great the rest of the time. There are many raft tours that start nearby after the Hells Canyon dam, but plenty of boating / fishing before the dam too. Caveat #1: If you need WiFi or Cell service, you will be out of luck, it's pretty bad. We didn't need it so no biggie for us. But don't try "Work from home" or "remote school" there. Caveat #2: there are no stores or gas stations for many miles around, so be sure to have a full tank before you get there, and a cooler with food. Fill up in the town of Halfway ~20 miles if you arrive from the West, or Cambridge ~20 miles if you arrive from the South. There is no North or East roads that go to this area, it's pretty remote.

No WiFi here, but a few miles south on Idaho side at woodhead park there is. We preferred this part of river and lake and I was able to get a connection for Starlink out of site #2. The camp area was virtually bug free late September 2024. My first visit to HC, regret not coming sooner. Mid 80s for our stay. Off road 4x4 here is very fun and scenic.

Fantastic Campground! Lush, green grass and immaculate sites. RV sites and tent sites. No full hook-ups, but elec and water at the RV sites. Walk down to the Snake River and do some fishing or just float. Sprinklers run every night so keep your belongings off the grass.

A quiet and tranquil place located below Oxbow Dam on the snake river. It is incredibly beautiful in the spring time. Even in the summer, the shade trees provide a cool atmosphere. It is exceptionally relaxing.
