Do NOT use Google for directions, you will get lost. The Bureau of Land Management website gives good directions. On the positive side when we got lost we saw a large cow herd with many babies. The Pepperwood trail starts on the east side of the campground and it is a very nice trail. I don't know it's total length but we walked it for an hour before turning around. Even in May there were still many wildflowers.
Great secluded campground at the far end of McCain Valley, well maintained by BLM. West side has more tree cover, east side more open. Calm and quiet all afternoon, wind picked up about 3am and the nearby turbines turned on, but not overwhelming, more like white noise. Do yourself a favor and check out Sacatone Overlook on the way in.
This is a really nice campground. Perfect weekend getaway. It has trash cans, bathrooms, no water so come prepared. I will be back soon.
The entire campground needs weed abatement. I still really like hiking around the area. It has been a while since we were last there. There is still no water so bring at least 2 gallons per day per person if you intend to stay you might consider a little more per person.
Everyone who goes there is so down to earth and loves the outdoors! But you have to be careful with the new generation who love do dirt bike out there 🤪 We had a wonderful time and relaxed with a bonfire and ten. Restrooms are clean but take you own drinking water and wash water there are no working water spouts 🤗
