Our campground offers a blend of natural beauty and essential amenities. Visitors have praised the lovely fall foliage and the privacy offered by the well-spaced sites. While some sites are better suited for trailers, others provide ample space for tent camping. It's important to note that tent site leveling can vary, so choosing the right site is key. Some sites can be combined for larger groups.
While the creek's water level can fluctuate seasonally, especially later in the year, the surrounding environment offers ample opportunities for exploration. The Overlook Trail, accessible from the campground, provides scenic hiking experiences. Though road noise is minimal, be aware that yellowjackets can be prevalent, especially around food. Be sure to store food securely in your vehicle overnight, as bear boxes are not provided. On the positive side, mosquitos and other pests are minimal.
Our facilities are well-maintained, featuring clean bathrooms for your comfort. The campground is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, hosting family reunions and gatherings. The camp host is known to be very nice and helpful. While we can accommodate some larger RVs on specific sites, it's generally best suited for smaller RVs and tent campers.
Experience the beauty of the Sierraville region at Cottonwood Creek Campground. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat or a base for outdoor adventures, we're here to provide a memorable camping experience.

First time staying here! We booked the last weekend before closing for the year, and it didn’t disappoint. We originally had site 11 but upon arriving realized that our tent would not fit. Some sites are better for trailers and have limited level tent space. We moved to site 09 and it was wonderful. The fall foliage was lovely, and we appreciated the trees separating many of the sites for privacy. The road noise wasn’t bad at all, we really didn’t hear much, and enjoyed a hike on the Overlook Trail which backed up to our site across the way. One bummer was that there was basically no creek, but that’s to be expected this late in the season. The yellowjackets were the worst and boldest I’ve ever seen, and were everywhere whenever we did food. Not sure if it’s just because there were so few people, but that was the only downside. No mosquitos, minimal chipmunks and other pests though. There are no bear boxes, so be prepared to store your food etc. in the car overnight. Very clean bathrooms, some of the sites are super spacious and can easily be combined for large groups, and we basically had the whole back loop to ourselves, save for maybe 2 or 3 other groups spread out. Very nice camp host too!
Beautiful older federal park. I hosted here the whole summer and met some amazing people from all over the country. The park is fairly well kept and clean. Very family oriented, family reunions and gatherings. While not big rig friendly, it can accommodate a few on specific sites.
Great camping spot! The spots are a bit small which was surprising so be booked 2 spots side by side for 6 people (3 tents). It’s great to have the spots that are really in the forest and not close to the road. For exemple we had the spot 21 that was well located. There are toilets (smelly) but no showers. The toilets are clean which was great. The man taking care of the camping sells logs which is really useful. There is 1 table and fire pit by camp spot. There is no bear box in this camping so you have to let all the food in the trunk of your car.
We had to find a campsite on the 4th of July and luckily for us, many campers had left that morning. We saw the tent symbol when passing this campground but we discovered it is a bit deceiving because there were also trailers, 5th wheels, and some motorhomes. Note to self: some of the best no hookup campgrounds have the tent symbol and if you’re lucky, they will be long enough to accommodate your 40 ft RV. There were beautiful trees, bathrooms, water in the campground (not at every site) but throughout to help with cooking, etc. our unit fit in space 48 and we were private on the south side with an open fire pit and picnic table. You can reserve spaces online but only $20 to stay. The camp hosts were incredible - Patrick and Cary. They had a golf cart that they rode around on to check on campers and activities. I felt very safe and they were so helpful in sharing that they had free fire wood you could get from them and that there was a botanical trail just past space 10. Everyone there was very peaceful, no loud music, or crazy stuff. Hwy 89 was close by and you can hear it but it slows down at night. Also recommend being very careful if trying to cross the highway - the trees are thick, people drive fast. Definitely a place we want to come back to visit but it’s closed in winter.
Beautiful covered in trees. Even two beautiful trails right next to the Campground had a great time.
