Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Big Rapids, MI

I call the hotel directly to make a reservation and chose the reservation option I was helped by a young man who was nice enough however he wanted me to sign up for choice awards. I told him from the start that I was not interested so he proceeded to make my reservation and quoted me a nightly rate of $134 took my credit card information and my home address and then upon getting ready to finalize the reservation. He stated to me that I would now be signed up for their free choice rewards program. I informed him that I had told him already. I was not interested in joining that program and he stated to me that I would now have to pay more for the room because he was quoting me. The choice rewards rate.. I told him that was unacceptable. He knew in the beginning I was not going to join the choice rewards, and yet he still quoted me. The choice rewards rate instead of the base rate, and then tried to sneak in at the end by signing me up for choice rewards I asked to speak to the manager, and at that point I was disconnected.. I called back to the front desk, asked to speak to the manager again was told the manager was out of the office at this time and I asked for a return phone call which was never received. I did tell them I would be leaving a review if they did not return my phone call to discuss the rate change and they still chose to not call..

I normally don’t write reviews but this time I feel I had to. The first overall impression of the hotel was very nice. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. I stayed with my friends after a hair expo so we were exhausted from being up all day and went to bed at a decent time. Then, in the morning we woke up early for breakfast and were harassed and inappropriately spoken to by a one legged man which no one did anything about. And then we were ACCUSED of turning off the breakfast heaters. Which is absolutely ridiculous. And then got complaints that we were speaking inappropriately in our OWN hotel room. We should be able to have private conversations in OUR room without worrying about someone listening in on it. No one even came to our room to speak to us about it once. The behavior from the staff towards us was completely unacceptable and we will not be staying there ever again. I regret leaving a tip in the room. Thank you country inn for your terrible service.

Bookings messed up my reservation. I had to wait on hold for 2 hours. The lady who handled my situation was very nice and understanding. Just sucks. I was very tired and just wanted to go to my room.

I have never considered putting a negative review about anything before, but I am compelled to do so to give a heads up to the public about the Country Inn & Suites hotel by Radisson, located in Big Rapids, Michigan. We stayed there on Saturday, August 10th, 2024, on the way to see my husband’s 104-year old aunt living in Traverse City. We were stunned to find out that the hotel hadn’t removed the deposit for the stated reason of “smoking in the room.” (My husband always uses the designated smoking area whenever staying at any hotel.) Fortunately, we had taken notice of the marvelous bench provided at the smoking area, and we looked it up to find more information about the manufacturer. In a letter to dispute the charge, we included that detail, and the credit card company rendered its decision in our favor. We had never experienced something as unpleasant as this throughout our numerous domestic and international travels. I want the Country Inn & Suites in Big Rapids to abandon immediately and completely the practice of assessing a potentially irreversible claim against former guests. This incident has affected our perception of traveling from a wholly optimistic and enjoyable experience to one fraught with suspicion and worry. Hotels are in the hospitality business, strangely enough, so we would naturally expect any hotel to give us the positive impression of being treated with common courtesy rather than predatory opportunism.

We were staying due to construction work on our home. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Dominique is the best front desk person I have ever dealt with. She is FANTASTIC!!
