This is wonderfully maintained. Spacious and paved lots. The hosts are very friendly. They are putting in lights for some of the paved paths. It is reasonably priced and can only make reservations the day you show up, so make sure you call that morning for this is a busy place.
Honestly, this was the best camping experience I've ever had. The lake is gorgeous, the camping is right off the waters edge, there are multiple playgrounds, a little basketball court, and a dog park on the water. The hiking trail goes all the way around and was awesome! Tons of wildlife. The camping spaces were fairly big given you can often feel like a sardine at other places. Norman was our campground host and he was the reason we decided to stay. Oh, and they also have free firewood which might be a thing around her, but not where I'm from. There's also a really nice washhouse and laundry center.
What a gem! This county park campground is amazing! With all paved level sites that are well spaced, tons of trees, nice clean bathhouse and a lake with a great exercise trail and, get this, free firewood Craighead Forest park sold should be on your must visit list. If all this isn't good enough, it's only $25 per night or $15 of you're over 55yo! But wait, there's more! You can stay for up to four weeks straight, leave for only three days and come right back!!! The only downside is the lack of sewer at the sites. But don't worry, there's a dump site right at the top of the hill. And you only have to take the black tank content there. When we were checking in we were told they allow grey water to be released at your site!
Not much to tell, it's like a state park. Trees, water, hard surface pad, fire ring, pets allowed, any person from public allowed everywhere, nice and easy hiking trails, one is paved and has exercise equipment stations throughout. Clean bath houses, handicap, wheelchair accessible, trees everywhere. Some small wildlife, heard there are some bears but no evidence seen. My 5th wheel camper is 40 foot and plenty of room to park it (all back in only).
This is such a beautiful place for many purposes. With the trails, exercise stations, playground, and picnic areas, it is great for alone time or family and friends time. The geese are beautiful, but they have really made a mess of things like other lake areas.
