We had a great time staying at the Creeper Trail Campground this past weekend. The homemade pizzas and breakfast sandwiches are better than anything I can get in my hometown. The showers are hot. And the leaf change this year is lovely. Even though the Creeper Trail is temporarily closed at the top, we still found plenty to do with our kids at Grayson Highlands, Elk Garden, etc. Both our kids and us want to come back.
The owners are always very welcoming and friendly! They have a camp store, wifi, and bathrooms and showers on site. All well kept. In the mornings they offer homemade breakfast sandwiches and burritos! I highly recommend the hand made wheat bread. In the evenings they offer freshly baked pizza! They had ample topping selections, AND options for non dairy vegan cheese that was actually really good. Definitely my favorite place to stay. When staying in town for the Trail.
Wonderful campground at the beginning of the Virginia Creeper Trail. Johnny and Juno were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Campsite 8 was spacious and an easy short walk to bathrooms and office. The office has a nice protected outdoor area for gathering. Breakfast sandwiches on site were amazing. Homemade biscuits and bread. Coffee selection was impressive. Bathrooms were warm and clean. Showers were hot. Very quiet and safe feeling campground. We will be back! Do make sure you download directions, Google maps did struggle with keeping a signal coming up. Had to back track to the camp office and Damascus to restart directions. WiFi at the office was very reliable.
This campground is the BEST on The Virginia Creeper Trail. It's a tucked away hidden secret gem. I'm not sure why I'm getting the word out as you come here to enjoy the mountains and bike from the campground down to the start of the northern terminus of the Creeper. We have been going here for years. The previous owner, "Olaf" was a wonderful man. New owners are just as wonderful, too, with keeping the place up in good shape. Restrooms are clean. They have a large open field to support large camping groups. Individual full electric and water hookup campsites for tents and RVs are up on the hill. Every time we have stayed there, people have respected quiet hours at 10pm. It's never been a problem. Come check out this place and promise you will keep it a secret. 🙊 Shame on me for breaking the secret code. You won't be disappointed.
Campground at the top of the Creeper Trail. Tent and Rv sites with hookups. The bath house was very clean. The owners are really friendly and you have to try the biscuits at the achy bum cafe. They also have gourmet pizza on Friday and Saturday nights. We love it here and will definitely be coming back.
