Mike is an awesome Host. It was nice meeting Dave while scouting the area elk hunting. I would highly recommend these cabins to anyone. They know how to take care of everything.
It was my husband and my 25th anniversary and being that we love the outdoors we decided to get a cabin. My boss referred vallecito lake to us and that by far was the best decision ever. We stayed at the Croll Cabins and lets just say the pictures say it all. The view from our cabin was the lake and the sunset was so beautiful. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. The owners were amazing and the guests were very friendly. I didn't want to come home. The cabin comes with paddle boards and Kayaks which I never done before until now. Had the best time ever and can't wait to return next year. Thank you for the best week/vacation I've ever had. Will definitely be back.
The place is gorgeous, fishing is great, staff are kind, only problem is there is a difference between rustic and rundown. There were loose nails in the carpet( sticking up had to pound back in to not trip) among various other small things. The basic pots and fry pans were there but there was no baking sheet. Be sure to bring your own bedding and towels. Overall the cabins were nice ( definitely not perfect ) your not going to be spending much time in the cabins enough to care. I would recommend this place to anyone. If you don't mind the great outdoors of course 😉
We stayed at Croll Cabins over Memorial Day 2024, there were three of us, we were in Cabin #2. The staff seemed nice. The cabin is rough though, and very cold. The lighting was horrible, very dark and dim. The hot water was insufficient for even a single quick shower, the outlets were not to code, plugs simply fall out from wall, and no outlets for hair dryer in bathroom. There was a fireplace that we used because it was 30 degrees outside, it did not vent properly, so we had to leave windows open. Very unpleasant. Eventually we used all the space heaters, which blew the circuit breakers. There was not a bucket or the likes for clean-up of the fireplace. The coffee pot did not work, which after a long night, was sad. We noticed that the stairs were actually too steep to safely use the second floor. The check out was very long, there was a long list of things to do before leaving, vacuuming, sweeping, trash (which I understand) specific bedding requests, specific dish clean up requests. I always leave places I rent clean, but this was excessive. Whoa, for a vacation it was a bit much. On VRBO the owners said we were a 3 of 5 on cleanliness, wow, what a laugh, took 2 hours to complete my list. Thought I would get out a real review, instead of the VRBO approved reviews on- line.
We have stayed in a lot of cabins before and this is by far the least pleasing one. I have never left a review either, but I have never really been this disappointed with our accommodations. We have never have to pay extra for linens (towels and bed sheets), that is always included in our stay. I have never been asked to vacuum and clean up before we left, although we clean up after ourselves but never had to vacuum. We stayed in cabin 3 which is near the horses and it stank the whole time we were there when we go out of the cabin. It was a really dated cabin, the stairs is so narrow and steep, it was so scary! Our electricity in the cabin tripped and we were left with no electricity for most of the cabin except for maybe 2 lights that somehow stayed lit. We had no cell service and could not call the owner and there is no landline to use. It was nighttime and my husband was in the middle of a shower so he was left to shower in the dark. We slept with no heat (and it was cold during our stay there) with our 2 little girls, and we were barely able to find outlets that can charge our phones. There were only 2 space heaters for the cabin and since there was no power, it got pretty cold, especially the upstairs where we slept was pitch black and had no power completely. my husband tried to email the owners as well. With the very narrow steps and carpet on the stairs, I fell down the very steep stairs and hit my lower back and scraped my arm. I am a young person and always careful but with it being dark on top of the dangerous stairs, I slipped. When my husband went to the office in the morning and we told the owner what happened, she didn't say much other than the stairs are not up to code because these are old cabins. She didn't offer any discount or anything for the inconvenience. Plus, the hot water ran out even on the first night and i had to finish my shower with cold water and we told her that, too! There was a fire place but with no wood. They have cut wood but you have to walk down the path and lug your own firewood. There aren't any kindling or anything to help start the fire either! Added touches like that can help ease the stay. Plus, they expect you to clean up the fireplace before you leave. The view is pretty but the fishing area near the cabins is not the greatest. Pretty rocky and shallow. We had to drive out farther to find a better spot. The owners are nice enough but not enough for us to come back and recommend to other people.
